The new community was located about three miles northwest of present-day Lombard with a population of just fifty residents in its initial days. In 1842, Buffalo Grove became one of five towns within Cook County when it was organized as a township; it remained an unincorporated community until 1959. As time went on, buffalo groves became more important as local sources for lumber and other materials needed for construction throughout Illinois and beyond; many homes still stand today devoted to agricultural production alone (e.g., poultry coupes). At various points during its history, various village councils have been established within buffalo grove; these bodies exercisable only with specific ordinances passed by both township and village council members - not without controversy or disagreement however! Buffalo Grove, Illinois is a census-designated place located in Kane County, Illinois. The population was 1,826 at the 2000 census. It lies east of Chicago on the border of Cook and Will counties. The first settler in Buffalo Grove was John Brown who arrived in 1836. He built a cabin on the north side of town and named it "Brown's Prairie". In 1839, Ebenezer Robinson moved to Buffalo Grove from New York City and started a grocery store. A post office was established at Buffalo Grove in 1840, and the name was changed to Buffalo Grove in 1851 when the post office became part of Kane County. Buffalo Grove is one of eight villages that make up Kane County. It is home to several parks including Mount Greenwood Cemetery which contains the remains of many notable people from both Indiana and Illinois. One family that has been important in Buffalo Grove for many years is the McCormick brothers who are also owners or operators of several businesses in town such as furniture stores, gas stations, convenience stores, car dealerships etc.. The McCormick brothers have also been involved with politics since they were children and their father (John McCormick) ran for office on three occasions during his career as Mayor of Kokomo (1902-1906). John McCormick served two terms as Mayor before he died suddenly at age 66 while serving out his third term as Mayor; this made him one of only two men ever to have held that position without having previous political experience. His widow Eleanor ran for re-election against her husband's widow but lost by about 25% due to lack of support from within city limits - she would later serve as mayor herself again after her husband's death).
