The history of gun sights in Buffalo Grove goes back to at least 1881. At that time, the village of Buffalo Grove was located in the Town of Westchester and had its own landowning family. One of the earliest landowners in Buffalo Grove was John Hesseltine, who owned a farm on what is now Washington Avenue. In 1881, Hesseltine donated land to the town for a public square and hired landscape architect James Ewart to design the square. The cornerstone for the square was laid by Mayor John J. McNamara on November 7th, 1881. In 1898, Buffalo Grove voters passed a resolution electing George Wickersham as their first city attorney. Wickersham designed and built the first Municipal Hall in Buffalo Grove – which still stands today – and served as city attorney until his retirement in 1923. During his time as city attorney, Wickersham also installed new streetlights and sidewalks within the village boundaries. In 1933, then-Mayor John J. McNamara designated part of City Hall Square (now known as Park Square) withinBuffalo Grove Village Office Building as a “gun sights” area where residents could view firearms unsupervised during morning hours without fear of crime or damage to property from other visitors or employees inside City Hall. This designation made gun sights an integral part of everyday life for residents in Buffalo Grove Village Office Building until it was sold off to developers in 1984 and demolished; today only pieces of brick wall remain from when this section of City Hall Square was home to gun sights activity during antiquity! The Buffalo Grove Rifle and Pistol Club was founded in 1875. The club first met to discuss firearms issues at the home of Nicholas A. Healey. The Buffalo Grove Rifle and Pistol Club is one of the oldest rifle clubs in Illinois. It was chartered on February 17, 1875, with a primary purpose of providing opportunities for shooting matches and target practice. In 1886, the Buffalo Grove Rifle and Pistol Club purchased an old mill located near present-day Elmwood Park for use as their clubhouse and range. In 1906, the club changed its name to the Buffalo Grove Firearms & Ammunition Association (BFAA). In 1928, BFAA became affiliated with the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), becoming part of that organization’s Western Region headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado. That same year, BFAA moved its operations from Elmwood Park to a new facility at 1024 S Maple Ave., just north of downtownBuffalo Grove. As part of NSSF’s efforts to support American gun owners throughout America, BFAA hosted a number of regional meetings throughout 1927-1928 aimed at promoting interest in handgun ownership among law enforcement officers across America; these meetings helped spur legislation ensuring that all states have “shall Issue” laws requiring concealed carry licenses for all peace officers who are not prohibited by state law from carrying any type of firearm outside their homes or while on duty. BFAA also sponsored several championships over the years including the original 1911 modern sporting event held at Elmwood Park which featured top shooters from around North America against each other; this event served as an important milestone in NRA history as it demonstrated how serious firearm competition could be taken by amateur shooters from around the country without prior professional instruction or experience.
