As a result of its long history and significant contributions to Buffalo Grove social life, the Buffalo Grove Rifle Club is today known as one of those venerable organizations whose legacy will continue long after its demise.

The city's growth slowed during World War II but resumed after the war due to increased shipments coming through Buffalo Grove port and an increase in manufacturing jobs in nearby Arlington Heights and Skokie. The city's borders were changed again in 1972 when it merged with neighboring Addison Township to formBuffalo Grove-Addison Township Incorporation. The current mayor is Kathryn Burchfield who replaced incumbent Brenda Harvey on November 4th 2017

The village of Buffalo Grove was incorporated in 1868 and became a town in 1881. In 1958, the village merged with the larger town to form a new municipality that still exists today as Buffalo Grove Village. The first settlers in what is now Buffalo Grove were two families who started out on a farm near present-day Elmhurst Heights. They named their farm "Buffalo" because they thought it would be easy for other farmers to find cattle when they came looking for land to buy. The first post office in what is now Buffalo Grove was established on May 10, 1865. The name "Buffalo" lasted until 1915 when it was changed to "New Albion". In 1868, the village of Buffalo Grove was organized and became a town under the jurisdiction of Cook County. On November 1, 1958, the township of Elmhurst Heights merged into buffalo grove as part of a larger consolidation by Cook County which also included five other townships: Bolton Landing (1906), Cicero (1910), Des Plaines (1914), Englewood (1918), and Kenmore (1920). At that time there were over 27,000 people living in Cook County and only 5 villages had more than 4500 residents each! Today's population of 24,711 reflects not only the growth experienced by both towns and villages within Cook County during this period but also changes brought about by suburbanization and other factors such as mergers and subdivisions throughout Chicagoland over the past few decades. For example, Elmhurst Heights has seen its population decline from over 26K in 1998 to just 17K today while Bolton Landing has seen its population grow from 6K to 11K since 2006! In fact, all but one township – Cicero – has seen populations decrease since 2000! Despite these challenges - including increased competition from neighboring municipalities due to rising housing prices - Buffaloes continue To Call Home Their beloved townhome communities like Brookline Place & Applecross Place where they live right next door with their friends & family!
