Buffalo Grove is a city located in DuPage County, Illinois, United States. The population was 27,651 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Buffalo Grove was organized as a town in 1854 and became a city on July 1, 1907. The first gun barrel made in Buffalo Grove was bought by Nathan Bedford Forrest from Nicholas Flaccus on October 25, 1857.

On November 2, 1886 the village of Arlington Heights incorporated as well. In 1906 the cities of Cicero and Elmhurst merged to form the present-day City of Buffalo Grove with a population of 86,000 people. The first major development in Buffalo Grove was the construction of a large flour mill in 1865 by J P Stephenson & Sons (now Stephens Grain). This mill helped to create an industry that would support many families for years to come and contribute significantly to Buffalo Grove's economy. After World War II many businesses closed or moved out due to competition from larger cities such as Chicago or Milwaukee; however, some local businesses survived until recently including Asphaltic Supply Company which still operates from its original location on Broadway Street near Cicero Avenue - now home to several restaurant chains and other retail businesses
The first settlers in Buffalo Grove were the Hennepin brothers, who arrived in 1836. The town was named after General Anthony Wayne, who fought in the War of 1812. In 1840, a post office was established in the town and it remained operational until 1888. Buffalo Grove was also home to one of the first grain elevators in Illinois. The Erie Railroad reached Buffalo Grove in 1868 and it became a part of the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railway (CPRR) system. The CPRR discontinued its operations at Buffalo Grove on May 15, 1971. In 1905, Buffalo Grove residents voted to incorporate as a village. On November 3, 1915,Buffalo Grove voters approved an ordinance establishing a fire department and providing For-Hire Services for Streets and Roads. On October 2nd of that year, the village acquired property from Wernher von Braun for use as their new school district headquarters.
