On July 1, 1984 UMC was merged into Colt Industries Inc., which became the world's leading arms manufacturer and exporter. As of November 1, 2006 Colt has announced plans to sell all of its arms businesses worldwide to Japanese gunmaker Iwata Corp for $1 billion and create a new firearms business called "Armsco." At Arsmo Colt will continue making handguns but also establish a new range of assault rifles and shotguns called "Colt Xpress." On October 10th, 2007 it was announced that Ruger had agreed to sell their firearms divisionification—Ruger Firearms Group—to ECHO Firearms Holdings LLC for approximately $3 billion including debt forgiveness and other considerations pending regulatory approvals. This transaction closed on December 12th 2007 with the assumption of certain ruger firearm liabilities by ECHO Firearms Holdings LLC creating what will be known as Ruger handgun subsidiary "Echo Ordinance". This change clears up much confusion surrounding Ruger's future as both handgun manufacturers as well as rifle/shotgun manufacturers all under one roof! It should be noted that this does not mean that all products currently manufactured by either company will move over; many products still remain under various corporate names pending final approval/labeling!
