Buffalo Grove is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area and is bordered by Oak Lawn to the north, Maywood to the east, Rushford to the south-southwest and Aurora to the west. Buffalo Grove was formally incorporated as a village on October 15, 1881. The name "Buffalo Grove" may be derived from an incident that took place there on October 14th which saw two Indian boys walking into town for supplies and were arrested by Sheriff John Beattie. The first post office in Buffalo Grove was established on November 3rd, 1872. On February 24th of that year, Buffalo Grove had its first election as a town with James Aiken as mayor. In 1876, Buffalo Grove seceded from Cook County and became its own municipality under the new form of government known as " municipal borough." In 1893, when Cook County was reorganized into counties again under State law (following the organized regions within Cook County being sold off), Buffalo Grove rejoined county lines as part of Kane Township but retained its Municipal Borough status until it left for good in 1950. In 1914, incorporation of Park Ridge began to suburbanize much of northwest side Chicago so much development occurred near Skokie Boulevard and other arterial roads leading into Loop Kankakee that led to increased traffic congestion around downtown during rush hour; this problem continued well beyond World War I when most people stopped driving due to rationing issues following America's entry into war). To relieve crowding around Loop Kankakee during these peak hours he recommended widening Skokie Boulevard somewhat from one-quarter mile wide at its widest point near Orleans Avenue through Park Ridge towards North Elgin Avenue where it would terminate at some other arterial road or street connecting with Loop Kankakee before continuing across North Elgin Avenue back onto Skokie Boulevard - this proposal was never carried out but has been mentioned variously in discussions about improving traffic flow around downtown during peak hours). In 1932 Erie Railroad donated land northeast of Elmhurst Road on which they built their Armour Yards plant; this plant produced engine parts for American automakers including Ford Motor Company who built their first car there in 1936. This facility remained open until 1977 when it closed because of economic reasons related to competition from Lorraine Motors Inc., who acquired Ford's old product line after Armours Yard closed. When Lorraine Motors went bankrupt in 1984 they sold all their assets including Armour Yards site back to Erie Railroad who used it for storage until 2000 when Amtrak moved all theiroperations over from Northwestern Indiana Terminal Station located just east of Elmhurst Road) whereupon Erie Railroad leased them back to Metro-Goldwyn Mayer Studios Inc., makers of 'Chicago Knight' movies starring Richard Dreyfuss (now known as 'Dickenson Heights'). After several years MTA leased them back again until Rochester Community College took over operations in 2006 which ended up closing Armory yards site due mainly TO overcrowding caused by new students coming onto campus rather than packing away retired equipment like formerly happened .
Buffalo Grove was settled in 1814 by the Erie Canal Company. The town became a important transportation center and industrial center during the 19th century. Buffalo Grove was also home to many famous people, including President William McKinley and Mrs. Theodore Roosevelt.
