The first rifles in Brookfield were built by the early settlers in the area. One of the earliest rifles, a shotgun, was built by John Fenton and his son George in 1793. The rifle was designed to be easy to shoot and could be used for hunting game. In 1812, Major John G. Sorensen bought land in Brookfield from Adam Kilbourn and began construction on what would become the first courthouse in Illinois. This building is still standing today and is a State-owned landmark. Also during this time, guns were introduced into the community as part of everyday life. In 1822, a rifle company was formed and began training young men for military service. The company eventually became known as “The Green Berets” due to their camouflage clothing they wore while serving abroad. Two years later, in 1824, Captain Nathaniel Hawthorne organized a volunteer militia unit called “The Hawk’s Claw” which served briefly during the War of 1812 before disbanding due to lack of funding. Around this time, shotguns started becoming popular among farmers so new barrels were made specifically for them instead of using older barrels that had been cast iron or other materials that might rust or tarnish over time. In 1830, Reverend Jephson donated land near Brookfield for an agricultural school which would soon become one of the most important educational institutions in southeastern Illinois. This school educated children from all walks of life about farming methods and how to survive on an agricultural basis with little help from government assistance at this time

It grew rapidly during the mid-19th century due to its location close to major transportation arteries like Canal Street and I-294. In 1881 it incorporated as a city under the name of "Brookfield". By 1920 it had reached its current size with an population of over 100,000 people. The city has seen consistent growth throughout its history; from its early days when residents gathered around fires nightly for warmth until today where businesses dot every block in downtown while social services are provided by numerous agencies along with parks that encompass nearly all blocks within walking distance for residents or visitors alike. Many local landmarks still stand today including: State Street Bridge which served as a crossing point over canal street until destroyed in 1922; Town Hall which remains standing today despite being extensively damaged by fire in 1927; The Art Institute of Chicago (now known as The Art Institute at McCormick Place) which was opened in 1865; Park Ridge Cemetery located just outside of town on Deer Lodge Road; Pritzker Pavilion located on Roosevelt Roads across from Sears Tower - one of only two buildings built specifically for this type building program designed by Larkin Associates Architects LLP - again demonstrating how important architecture continues to be both nationally and locally significant even centuries after their construction On top off all this wonderful growth & diversity came some serious challenges too!side streets became clogged with cars w/ no room for pedestrians crossin’ them & traffic lights out front got so bad they used ‘em only 3 times per day! But those were just ‘normal’ days back then – things have definitely changed since then! So much has changed since THEN that we're barelyeven aware that there once WAS a time when everything worked perfectly!? 😎

Brookfield is a village in Peoria County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. Brookfield is the sixth most populous municipality in Illinois and the second most populous in Illinois outside of Chicago. The village was founded on land purchased by Isaac Brock in 1838 from the Red Cedar Band of Potawatomi Indians. It initially consisted of only a hamlet called Brookfield Village, with a population of about 100. The first post office was established in 1840, and the first store opened in 1845. In 1852, Brookfield became one of the townships that were organized into Peoria County. The first courthouse was built in 1865 and served as the county seat until 1907 when it moved to Bloomington. In 1955, Brookfield voters passed a resolution stating their desire for annexation by Chicago; this request was granted on January 1, 1956. On July 1, 1957, Chicago annexedBrookfield without any vote by residents or property owner notification. As part of its incorporation into City of Chicago jurisdiction Brookfield lost its right to vote for mayor and other elected officials within City limits but Still retains full municipal services such as water distribution and fire protection within those limits through contract withlderly department citywide As one result of annexing Brooklyn Fields Shopping Center onto its borders on Addison Street just east of I- 55 between State Street and Pulaski Road - also home to Sears Roebuck's original store building dating back to 1886 - additional development has occurred directly adjacent to what had been once an agricultural community striving primarily for freight transportation purposes with little else coming through except occasional motorists travelling along I- 55 which at that time spanned both sides of town paralleling each other
