Brookfield is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 21,569 at the 2010 census. It is the ninth-largest city in Illinois and the second-largest in Chicago metropolitan area. Brookfield was first settled by Germans in 1839 and became an incorporated town on April 14, 1871. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 24,890. The name "Brookfield" derives from two German words: Brok (brook) andfeldt (farm). The name means "a place where brooks flow." In 1839, Captain George Fenton purchased land at what is now North Side Drive and Vine Streets in what is now Brookfield Township for $1,000. He named his new farm "Green Forest". When Chicago was founded on November 3rd of that year as the City of Chicago it consisted of only five blocks east of Dearborn Street on the north side of State Street between Washington Boulevard and LaSalle Avenue. The first settler to live near South Side Road and Vine Streets was John Kemp who built a small cabin there in 1837 from materials he had brought with him from Germany when he arrived in America. In 1892, Gottlieb & Co., manufacturers of revolvers and shotguns in New York City, introduced a new type of trigger called the breechlock. The breechlocktrigger was an innovative design that allowed handguns to be fired with one hand using a depressed pull on the hammer instead of having to cock the gun before firing it. This proved to be an essential feature for rapid fire handguns such as pistols and rifles. In 1903, Colt Firearms Company Introduced their first revolver with a spring-loaded strikerfired trigger known as the Colt Python. This firearm became very popular due its easy operation and quick fire ability. In 1907, Smith & Wesson Corporation introduced their own strikerfired pistol known as the Masterpiece series which featured a self-contained magazine capable of holding up to 10 rounds. The Rodriguez Pistol also featured this self-contained magazine system however it was not as successful as Smith & Wesson’s product line. The first ever police service handgun was designed by John Brownell in 1909 while he was working at Colts Manufacturing Company He named his handgun the Model 1911 after America’s First Deputy Sheriff William J “Bojangles” Robinson who served in law enforcement during World War I wielding an English model Walther PPK pistol which he acquired from British forces retreating through America following their offensive against American neutrality

Brookfield is a small town located in the northwestern portion of the state of Illinois. The population was 9,836 at the 2010 census. The town is named after Brookfield, Wisconsin, and was first settled in 1847. Brookfield became a city in 1951 and has since grown to be one of the mostanticipative communities in Illinois. Brookfield is bordered by Will County to the north, Lake County to the east and south, and Steuben County to the west. The town preserves its rural feel with many rolling hills and narrow streets. This mixture of rural character and lively urban atmosphere has been key to its success as an agricultural community for more than a century. The early pioneers who founded Brookfield were farmers from nearby Ionia Township who had come overland from Michigan during the American Revolution. They began farming land that they had acquired along what is now Congress Parkway (now US-41). In 1847, John Cavanagh purchased 640 acres adjoining Wabash River from David Butler for $1 per acre. This acquisition allowed him to establish himself as one of Illinois' earliest farmers. Cavanagh's successors continued expanding their farm operations until 1978 when all but two farms in Brookfield were sold off within five years of each other due to technological advancements that made agriculture more efficient than it had ever been before. Today, many families still own large tracts of farmland across portions of Brookfield including sections near downtown which remain largely undeveloped today because they are used for livestock grazing or other purposes rather than housing development; this traditional way of life has helped keep much of what makes Brookfield unique – its preserved rural character – intact over time
