Brookfield, Illinois is a village in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 33,566 at the 2010 census. The village is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first residents of Brookfield were French Canadians who arrived from Quebec in 1812 and 1814. In 1835, the village was organized as a township under the jurisdiction of Elgin Township. On July 1, 1848, it became a Village when it adopted a local government ordinance. On December 12, 1954 - less than two years after it had been incorporated as an entity separate from Elgin Township - Brookfield voted to become one of twelve townships within Kane County. On February 6, 1955 - less than two months after its incorporation into Kane County - Brookfield became one of three villages in Cook County bypassing Lake Forest City to gain additional land for development purposes on which to build homes. In 1966-1967 - with the opening of Interstate 90 and other factors causing suburban growth throughout Cook County - Brookfield began experiencing rapid population growth due in large part to its location just south of I-90 and its easy access to jobs in Chicago's North Side neighborhoods. As more people moved into Brooksfields close proximity to I-90 (and later Midtown) they brought their children along with them and soon there were over 2200 families living in Brooksfields earning incomes above $7500 per year according as reported by village officials during the early 2000s; this number has since declined slightly but continue

Brookfield is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 7,821 at the 2010 census. Brookfield is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. It was originally called "Wichita" and "Tipton". In 1837, the town was organized as Aurora, but it changed its name to Brookfield in 1868 due to a survey that found that Aurora had too many residents from nearby Waukegan. The first post office opened in Brookfield on October 6, 1868. The railroad arrived in Brookfield in 1867 and by 1870 had reached all of present-day Cook County and most of Kane County. This led to easy access for goods and people throughout the county and helped spur economic development. By 1890, the population of Brookfield had increased to 10,000; however this rapid growth did not continue because transportation became available only after Chicago's incorporation into the city limits in 1914. Brookfield's economy has been based largely on agriculture until recently when heavy industry has replaced some farming activities as a mainstay of its economy. The major employers today are DuPont Pioneer Corporation (formerly known as American Cyanamid), Ford Motor Company ( informally known as Dearbornhearth), Abbott Laboratories (Abbott Pharmaceuticals), Memorial Hospital System/Eli Lilly & Co., and Sears Roebuck & Co.; although there are also several small businesses and two universities located within the town boundaries: Southern Illinois University Carbondale campus in Carbondale and Northern Illinois University at DeKalb Campus near DeKalb Heights). Today's community is tightly knit with strong familial ties across generations; one example being Maynard family patriarchs involvement with both Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIU) Carbondale sports teams - including coaching stints with head coach Rick Majerus' men’s basketball team during their glory days during the 1960s through early 1970s) as well as NIUDeKalb students body government - each member participating fully or nearly so with elected officials on various City Council committees responsible for maintaining law enforcement services within their respective wards/neighborhoods - making for an engaged public voice which truly represents much of what makes up “the village”...
