Bridgeview is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 7,940 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area and is located about northwest of the city center. The name "Bridgeview" comes from two different sources: one from a map of 1848 and another from John Payson's 1847 survey which called it "Boulevard". In 1830, Aaron Burr had built a bridge over the Fox River in Bridgeview Township and named it after himself. The first post office was established in 1852, and by 1860, Bridgeview had become an incorporated village. When the railroad came through town in 1864, they built a depot on Main Street near present-day Park Avenue. It was here that citizens voted to incorporate as a village again in 1865. By 1870, Bridgeview had added two churches - St John's Episcopal (founded 1865) and Immaculate Conception (1870). In 1907-8, Shamus Waters designed three bridges over the Fox River between Winnetka and Glencoe; these were known as Waters' Bridges because their designer - Shamus Waters - worked for both companies that constructed them: United States Steel & Manufacturing Company (USSM) across Old Highway 95 north of those bridges while also working on USW macadam road crossings just east of Glencoe now used by I-94 southbound; Wheaton Paper Mfg & Supply Co.'s crossing just west of Glencoe now used by I-294 northbound; and McKinley Paper Mill's crossing just east of Glencoe now used by I-294 southbound. The last bridge completed was USW State Road 95 bridge over Chicago river at Green Line tracks about one mile northeast of current day Elmhurst Road/I-88 intersection with current day Bradley Drive/I-294 intersection near high school #2A (). That structure still remains standing although badly damaged due to flooding caused by Hurricane Sandy in October 2012 As Bridgeview grew larger than Winnetka or Glencoe combined it began to suffer some competition for annexed land along its border with those townships including what is today Lombard Heights within Winnetka Township on the north side while Ridgefield Township watered down its demands for annexation so as not to compete with Bridgeview's growing size on its southern border until finally achieving full annexation in 1916 when all 3 townships were merged into one new municipality called BridgeVIEW

Bridgeview is located in the northwest corner of the county and is bordered by the towns of Mount Prospect to the east, West Chicago to the south, and Schaumburg to the west. The village of Bridgeview is adjacent to both Bridgeview and Mount Prospect. The first settler in what became Bridgeview was John Cage who arrived in 1838. He built a cabin on a hill near today's intersection of State Road 2 and Kedzie Avenue. Cage's cabin was demolished around 1900 but parts of it remain standing as part of Gatewood Cemetery. In 1846, Anna Joffe moved from her home on Sheffield Drive in Mt Prospect to what would become BridgeVIEW with three other women: Fannie Best (1811-1868), Louisa Sigourney (1817-1885), and Catharine Marsh (1824-1901). They named their community after Anna Joffe's sister Maria who had married Amos Birdseye during the Great Lakes slave trade. During World War II, many American soldiers were stationed at nearby Camp Echo which became known as 'The Farm' due to its close proximity to Battlefield Park north of town where many battles took place during that war such as D-Day Normandy landings or The Battle of Bastogne; over 1 million people participated in events at 'The Farm' including more than 1,500 military personnel from Fort Sheridan alone! "Bridge View USA" an online exhibit about America’s post WW2 military infrastructure features photos and videos taken at "The Farm" between 1945 and 1949. According to the 2010 census, 4,865 people live within blocks boundaries of Mount Prospect Elementary School - one third of all students attending school within that zip code are served by that school! In addition Holy Name Catholic Church has been servicing residents here since 1872! All these services have helped contribute significantly towards this community’s economy which employs nearly seventy percent+of its workforce! And yet another major reason for this thriving economy is due largely to our rich history which can be seen throughout every inch ol' this beautiful little town!"
