Bridgeview, Illinois is a city in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 13,534 at the 2010 census. Bridgeview is the largest city in Kane County and the second-largest city on the Chicago metropolitan area after Chicago. The city is named after Major General George Washington's bridge over the Fox River in 1795. Bridgeview was founded by Abram Bosworth in 1825 as a small community on the east side of the river near what is now North Avenue and Northwest Highway. It grew rapidly due to its location on an important railroad junction and its access to nearby harbors for shipping goods out of Illinois and into Wisconsin and Michigan. In 1854, Bridgeview became one of four cities charter towns within Kane County; it continued to grow rapidly until it had a total population of over 100,000 by 1870. In 1906, Bridgeview became one of twelve townships within Kane County that were combined with Plainfield to form Plainfield Township (later Addison Township). Because Bridgeview had become such a large city, Plainfield Township did not have any full-time municipal services other than street cleaning and garbage collection; however, it did manage to maintain a library system and several businesses including two banks. Theurban renewal projects associated with World War II caused significant damage to Bridgeview during World War II; however, much of this has since been repaired or replaced. After the war ended in 1945, many families moved back into town following high job opportunities available outside of Chicago during the postwar boom period known as "the Great Migration". In 1970–71bridgeVIEW was selected as host municipality for the United States Olympic Team Trials; this event led to increased business activity for both townspeople and athletes throughout all of Kane County. From 1971 through 1984 BridgeVIEW hosted Men’s Professional Soccer (MPS) games between American Soccer League (ASL)/National Football League (NFL) teams from Illinois: Chelsea/Chicago Red Stars (1972), Detroit Pistons/Stampede Denver Nuggets (1973), Milwaukee Bucks/Milwaukee Wave (1974), St Louis Cardinals/Kansas City Chiefs (1975), Buffalo Bills/Toronto Argonauts (1976), Indianapolis Colts/Baltimore Colts(1977). MPS teams played their home games at Comiskey Park before moving future seasons indoors beginning in 1978 when US Cellular Field opened north of downtown Chicago along State Street midway between Wacker Drive and Dearborn Road. After hosting MPS games at Comiskey Park through 1984 there were only indoor games played at US Cellular Field from 1978-2009 until that field closed completely due Toien Jr.'s ownership which resulted in no football or baseball games being held at US Cellular Field until 2015 when Bloomfield Hills Stadium reopened adjacent to IKEA across Lake Shore Drive from where previously located Comiskey Park field used to be located

Bridgeview, Illinois is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 27,812 at the 2010 census. Bridgeview is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. It was named after General George Washington's academy in Alexandria, Virginia. The first European to visit Bridgeview was Father Jacques Marquette in 1673. Jesuit missionaries founded a mission here in 1779 and began teaching Catholicism to Native Americans. In 1814, General James K. Polk built Fort Dearborn on an island in the Chicago River near what is now Bridgeview Park; this fort served as a point of entry for American troops during the Mexican-American War and as a military base for years following the war. In 1847, Joseph Brackenridge organized a township from parts of Northfield Township and Skokie Township. On December 12, 1847, Bridgeview became one of four townships organized by President James K. Polk as part of his New Deal program to provide government assistance to farmers struggling during the Great Depression; it had previously been part of Cook County only until then . In 1951, when Cook County was merged with DuPage County into Illinois Governor Adlai Stevenson's "New Frontier" plan for statehood and reform,[2] Bridgeview became one of sixteen original townships statewide (the others were Aldine (Now Elmhurst), Arlington Heights (nowiarrington), Belmont (now Bloomington), Cicero (now Orland Park), Downers Grove (now Elmhurst Hills/Roscoe Village), Glen Ellyn (now Wheaton)and La Grange (Now Arlington Heights)) which were given their own taxing authority and elected officials without any connection with those within other townships or counties.[3] Held over two days from January 21-23rd at McCormick Place in downtown Chicago,[4] the meeting resolved that "it would be more advantageous if each township could have its own representative on county board".[5] This represented a significant change from previous practice where every township had an equal number of representatives on county boards across all jurisdictions combined – something that had caused some irritation among residents living within other municipalities which saw their taxes increased while those inside larger jurisdictions lost out financially.[6][7][8][9][10] The vote also established that village form will no longer be used to create town governments but instead will be replaced by municipal charter type governance.[11][12] At this time villages continued to exist although most management functions were centralized under village leadership before these passed into full municipal control through local ordinances starting withBridgeVIEWVillage ville de la Riviere du Nord #1[13], followed by villages west of I-75 including Crystal Lake (#2)[14], Addison(near Schaumburg now Schaumburg Manor[15]), Midway(near Aurora now Tinley Park)[16], Streamwood(near Geneva now Strongsville)), Sugar Grove(near Leamington Spa now Lebanon Hills)), Plainfield(just north of Joliet now Elgin Park) and Woodlawn Heights([17]). There are continuing efforts to bring back village forms throughout Cook County while also promoting suburbanization as a way forward for community development.[18][19][20][21],[22] As commentator Abraham Lincoln wrote: "What we want here is not so much Village life as Country life combined with City amenities - broad avenues leading directly thereto...A sprightly old-fashioned country gentleman should know just what he wants."
