Bridgeview, Illinois is a city in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 14,898 at the 2010 census. Bridgeview is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. It is bordered by the cities of Naperville to the north and Schaumburg to the east. The village of Downers Grove lies to the south and west. Bridgeview was founded in 1847 as a pioneer post office called "Broad Ripple". In 1853 it became a town when it amalgamated with two other towns, South Bend and Dearborn Heights. The first post office building in Bridgeview was built on what is now West Lincoln Boulevard. In 1871 Bridgeview became an incorporated village when it merged with Downers Grove and Elmhurst. The Village of Bridgeview annexed much of neighboring Elmhurst in 1922 as part of its effort to become more self-sufficient after years of being dependent on Aurora Township for municipal services. In 1955, following annexation by Danville, BridgeVIEW became one municipality with a total population over 15K people including Danville residents who had moved there from Elmhurst during that time period Additionally, Danville's annexation created a new township which also contained portions of both Elmhurst and BridgeVIEW until that time
