In 2003, BridgeVIEW merged with neighboring village of Arlington Heights to form one municipality with an estimated population of 27,819 residents- making it one of Chicagoland's largest villages and giving it more than twice the sizeof any other municipality within its limits while still possessing its own government and school system In 2009-10 BridgeVIEW successfully lobbied for approval from both Cook County Board President David Daley (D) and Mayor Rahm Emanuel (D) to annex additional lands surrounding their current City Limits creating what would become known as "the West Side" which included much needed housing development including several high-end properties currently owned or leased by nearby boxy suburbs such as Streamwood & Wheaton Hills In 2013-14 BridgeVIEW again lobbied for approval from both Cook County Board President Daley (D) and Mayor Emanuel (D) to annex additional lands surrounding their current City Limits creating what would become known as "the East Side" which includes much needed housing development including several low-end properties currently owned or leased by nearby middle class suburbs such as Lawndale & Evanston
