Bridgeview is a town in DeKalb County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,819 at the 2010 census. Bridgeview is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. It is located on the bank of the DuPage River and across from Chicago's East Side. The name "Bridgeview" comes from two places: one was near the current site of Bridgeview Elementary School, which stood on what is today the northern border of township; and another called it " bridges over the river" because there were no bridges then. The first white settler in what would become Bridgeview was George Aiken who arrived in 1837 from Georgia with his family. He built a cabin next to where Union Pacific Railroad tracks now stand. The first post office opened in 1842 and was known as "Aiken's Grove." In 1848, John Davenport became the first postmaster and changed it to "Bridge View". By 1860, Bridge View had a population of 110 people and by 1870 it had increased to 220 people due to heavy immigration from Germany and other European countries during that time period. In 1865–1966, BridgeVIEW il went through some very tough times as residents fought for their right to keep their school buildings un-derwritten off limits by village trustees while also trying to get help with needed repairs/updates inside their schools themselves (due to lack of funds). Ultimately they prevailed but only after many months of hard work by both sides involved in an intense public outcry that included celebrities like Jay Leno & Steve Jobs himself! Original Township Trustees could not or would not come out against this organized petition drive led & funded largely by local businesses including several members of my own family! This watershed event helped change how voters look at township decisions going forward – EVER since! During this time period there were also some amazing accomplishments such as: 1) becoming one of just 3 townships in DeKalb County (along with Prospect Heights & Park Ridge) to have a full School District; 2) having its own Hospital; 3) becoming home to one of Chicagos top private Colleges (IL college), Roosevelt University; 4) hosting one year’s worth (1984-1985) OF THE INTERNATIONAL JOURNEY MUSIC FESTIVAL HERE IN BRIEFESTOWN – AND MORE! There has never been anything quite like it before or since...and we are still here today!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bridgeview is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,193 at the 2010 census. Bridgeview is located in the Chicago metropolitan area. It has been part of the city of Chicago since its incorporation by the City of Chicago on August 25, 1847. Bridgeview was named for General Anthony Bridge over theChicago River and it took its name from Colonel George Washington's estate on which it was located. Bridgeview first arrived in what is now the northwest side of town on the banks of the South Side River. In 1833, Ira DeKalb built a sawmill and gristmill on Sixty-eighth Street and Prairie Avenue just east of present day Main Street between Fort Dearborn Road and Canal Road. deKalb's mill provided flour for nearly all of Cook County until 1862 when a new flour mill was built near State street by Elijah Pemberton & Son (later known as Peet). On November 30, 1830, Abraham Lincoln was elected President of America and upon his inauguration set out from Springfield to visit various cities including Chicago where he would soon meet with future President James K. Polk about settling an issue with Mexico. On January 6, 1835, Abraham Lincoln met with George Stephenson at Montrose Terminal in Hammondsport over a proposed railroad route through Hammondsport that would have connected Lake Michigan to Illinois via Racine and Milwaukee Counties The meeting failed to produce any conclusions but led to Stephenson's design being placed before Congress for authorization as part as a "pet project" for $1 million dollars On March 2nd 1840 David Dixon purchased three hundred acres west of BridgeVIEW from John Jacob Astor along with one thousand acres adjoining it for $2 million dollars . Dixon had come across Astor’s purchase advertisement while travelling through Indiana during his gubernatorial campaign that year Dixon planned to use his land holdings primarily for farming purposes but also envisioned building a town on each corner lot once construction began so that people could live close together without running into one another or having their homes destroyed by fire
