Bridgeview is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 25,569 at the 2010 census. Bridgeview is the county seat of Cook County and home to the Chicago Bears American football team. The first European settlers in what is now Bridgeview were French traders and fur traders who arrived in 1795. In 1819, Adam Burtock founded a small town on the east side of the Chicago River near where present-day Bridgeview stands. The name of Burtock's village was changed to Bridgeview in 1828 as part of local government reorganization which merged many villages into one structure under new leadership. The city was incorporated on December 15, 1851. In 1870, John Prentice laid out a large tract of land northeast of downtownChicago on which he built what are now the old neighborhoods of Northwest Side and West Side Village. Prentice's business acumen and political connections enabled him to build one of Chicago’s most successful shopping districts – bounded by State Street on the north, Lake Shore Drive on the south, Wabash Avenue on the west and North Avenue on the east – during his time as Mayor from 1865 to 1870. Northeast suburbanites began moving into Bridgeview starting in earnest after World War II when suburban developments started popping up throughout Cook County with an eye towards providing convenient access to jobs in downtownChicago that had become available thanks to rapid growth within Downtown Loop businesses like Sears Roebuck and Kmart (the latter two properties being acquired by Sears Holdings Corporation later that same year). Today's bridgehead for this development can be seen along Northwestern Expressway just south of I-290 Exit 241B/Northwest Tollway exit 248A/Southwest Tollway exit 251A Veilancourt Road). Today’s community started off as mostly working-class white people who bought homes here because they could see plenty of potential for economic development nearby; however over time there has been more diversity represented with families coming from all around Chicagoland for work or school opportunities (this has especially been true during recent decades due to increasing numbers Of Hispanics living within commuting distance). Despite this diversity there remains some levelgeisthereabouts that still manages to maintain its close-knit feel despite having so many different faces looking out at it every day from various parts of Townsquare Shopping Center across Northwest Highway (just north side entrance off Interstate 90)

Bridgeview is bordered by the city of Chicago to the north and west; Oak Lawn to the east and south; and Westchester County to the southeast. The name comes from a small creek that flows through its downtown area. Bridgeview was chartered on May 16, 1854 as part of what became known as “The Town of Chicago”. It had a total population of 513 when it was organized. On July 1, 1856, Bridgeview merged with another town called Kimball which also included parts of Oak Lawn and Westchester County. On December 8, 1865, Bridgeview became an independent city under the leadership of mayor John Fenton. On January 1, 1907, BridgeVIEW merged with neighboring village of Park Ridge (now part of Hoffman Estates). This led to a municipal population increase from 914 to 24 thousand over only six years! In 1916-17 Mayor James J. Byrnes announced plans for annexation by Chicagoland – then still part of Indiana – but no action was taken because Chicagoland did not have enough residents to support annexation without assistance from BridgeVIEW/Park Ridge residents! Finally on October 10th 1917 after more than two years delay Mayor Byrnes announced that BridgeVIEW would be annexed into Chicagoland effective November 15th 1917! The community's first mayor was future U.S. Vice President Alvan Clark! Bridge VIEW contributed $10 000 towards construction costs for the City-County Building in North Lawndale in 1928 and 1929 which now houses the Chicago Department Of Planning & Development headquarters
