Bridgeview is a village in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. Bridgeview is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. It is located on the eastern edge of Kane County and bordered by Aurora to the north and west, Lombard to the south and east, and Maywood to the south-west. The village was founded in 1853 as a small town on Indiana Street between Aurora Avenue and Metropolitan Drive. In 1881 it became an incorporated village with a school and post office. The first postmaster was C. H. Laughlin. A grain elevator was built in 1907 before being sold to American Bridge Company in 1917 for use as a rail car storage facility until it closed down in 1984. The Village Hall building has been used as both a library since 1962 and also as an event hall since 1974 when it served as home court for Kane County's basketball team during their championship seasons). In 2002–2003 bridge replacement projects were completed that replaced all of the bridges over Kankakee River within Village boundaries (except one bridge which crossed out of bounds). These projects included widened shoulders on all three streams that flow through Bridgeview - Kankakee River, White Creek, and Black Creek - new lighting systems throughout town including signals at every intersection including streetlights; new sidewalks; resurfacing of streets; gutters; drains; watermain replacements/replacements; storm sewerscape rehabilitation/rehabilitation; environmental assessments were performed on these projects which totaled $28 million dollars

Bridgeview is one of the most diverse cities in Illinois and has a wide range of cultures and religions evident in its residents. The first residents of Bridgeview were those who came over the Chicago River from other parts of Indiana and Searsville (now Mokena) in 1847. The town was named for John H. Bridge, an early settler and postmaster in nearby Elmhurst. By 1860, Bridgeview had a population of about 100 people. In that year, the farmers of what is now Elmhurst east of I-95 built the first church on State Street in Bridgeview; it served as a religious center for many years until it burned down in 1922. In 1871, George Sperry established his mill at present-day Ford Road and Route 56 near where the current Mill Village Shopping Center stands today. This mill produced flour which was sold to local stores and also exported to Europe. It remains one of only two remaining such mills still operating in Illinois today. On November 3, 1876, Mayor James Waco announced that he would develop what would become known as “The Prairie Road” into a public road through downtown Bridgeview leading to Lake Michigan beyond Loop 1604E/I-294W . At that time there were no streets or thoroughfares within walking distance of every inhabitant living within 2 miles radius from any business or schoolhouse! The cost? $5 per acre! whomever bought property along “Prairie Road” became co-owners with Mayor Waco with power to improve or demolish any house upon request! All citizens were given 1/2¢ worth of stamps each which they could use at various businesses located on “Prairie Road”………..this allowed for mass production without having to build excess manufacturing facilities elsewhere! It wasn’t long before bridge builders began appearing throughout downtown looking for contractual work due to lack thereof on “Prairie Road”…. this roadway soon became known as The Avenue after then City Manager Jens Hansen renamed it so following his inauguration on January 10th, 1937

The Village of Bridgeview merged with the Town of Arlington Heights on January 1, 2013 to form the current village of Bridgeview-Arlington Heights.
