Bridgeview is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Bridgeview is located on the south side of Chicago and borders Park Ridge to the north and Westchester to the east. Bridgeview was established in 1871 as a small community on Milwaukee Avenue between Prospect Road and Cicero Avenue. The name was changed to Bridgeview in 1907 after a bridge over the Chicago River was built there. In 1929, Bridgeview resident Herbert Hoover became President of America when he won election as Ulysses S. Grant's Vice President. In 1951, Eisenhower made Bridgeway his home town during his presidency because it had become an important manufacturing center for military hardware and other products exported by American manufacturers in that region. In 1956, Bridgeview Elementary School opened its doors to students following years of construction which began in 1944 with funding from local industrialists Harry Weisz and Julius Rosenwald Jr.. That same year saw also another major milestone for BridgeView when its first high school (later named Wabash High School) opened its doors after many years of planning and fundraising which included contributions from then- Mayor Edward J. Daley and future CEO Jack Welch In 2007-2008, bridge over I-90 were replaced with two new bridges connecting downtown Chicago with River North and Edison Parkside neighborhoods on the South Side On May 20th 2009 some residents organized themselves into what they called "The Citizens' Commission To Save Our Community" after their efforts failed to secure any changes or updates to plans for development near their homes since 2005 without input from neighbors or city hall . Plans calls for 10 large mixed use buildings along I-90 corridor between Archer Road & Addison Rd., 11 single family homes next to Lake Shore Drive just east of I-290 interchange & 5 million dollar investment for much needed infrastructure such as lights, street repairs etc., but no mention about community services like water/sewer access or sidewalks
Bridgeview was founded in 1851 by the merger of two small villages, Bridgeview and Maywood. The town was named after General George Armstrong Custer who fought in the American Civil War. The first post office was established in 1852, and the first school was built in 1857. In 1870, Bridgeview became a city.
