In 1892, Bridgeview was the site of the first mass shooting in Illinois. A group of men and women went to a dances at the local hall and opened fire on their own dance floor, killing twelve people. The shooter was sentenced to death butwas later pardoned.
Bridgeview is a town in DuPage County, Illinois, United States. The population was 3,595 at the 2010 census. Bridgeview is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The name of the town comes from a short distance to the east of it on Highway 61 bridge over the Des Plaines River, which was called Big Bridge because it spanned two heights and was wide enough for four cars to drive side by side across. Bridgeview was founded in 1881 when three men from Waukegan, Illinois (near downtown Chicago) bought land east of what is now Bridgeview on land that had been donated by Judge Amos Kendall. The first store in Bridgeview opened in 1881 and remained open until 1931. In 1899, John Daley founded Daley Steel Corporation and named his company after his father's home state of Illinois, also known as "Daley Land". It became one of America's largest steel companies with plants all over the world. In 1912 a school building was constructed on what is now East Side Drive near present-day Grand Avenue; this school served as the starting point for many later high schools in Bridgeview including North High School (1948), South Side High School (1963), West Side High School (1981), and Park Ridge High School(2002). A new elementary school serving students north of Interstate 90 between Irving Park Road and State Street opened in 1978; this school served as an annex to then-existing North Elementary/Middle School which became known as “The Great One” due to its large enrollment before unification with North High School in 2002. On November 6th 1959 two bridges crossing I-90 were destroyed by storms: one over Rockford Rd./I-290 southbound and another southbound over I-465 westbound connecting Tollway 8 with I-290 northbound just outside Lockport Township were both destroyed by severe weather conditions including high winds, intense rains, widespread flooding and tornadoes resulting in fatalities among several hundred people who crossed those bridges during those rare events. No one knows exactly how many crossings those bridges held at any given time; however they are estimated to have totaled around 350 or more individual crossings during that time period alone! Many residents who crossed those Bridges during that catastrophic storm still do not feel they received their fair share back from governmental officials who should have paid attention to their needs! Bridge View today has recovered well since these devastating times but there are always efforts made to keep things 100% local & community friendly! There are numerous events throughout year such as Homecoming football games & pancake breakfast hosted by our church every fall!, Harvestfest held annually at Samhain Time opposite park & lots available for purchase thruOUT town!, 4th Annual Hispanic Heritage Festival taking place this coming Saturday Oct 15th @ 10am - 1pm ET featuring Mexican Folkloric Dancing performed by some very talentedlocal talent (& lots of prizes!), various art shows throughout year at various libraries etc.,etc…..& last but not least….the annual Pumpkin Show being presentedOct 13th @ 7PM central Daylight Saving Time

Bridgeview was a small town in Cook County, Illinois, until the 1960s. It is now a ghost town, located about 20 miles east of Chicago on the border of Kane and McDonough Counties. The first settler in what is now Bridgeview was John Wesley Wright. He arrived in 1837 from England and built a log cabin on the banks of the Rush River. The post office at Bridgeview was established in 1849, and remained open until it closed in 1925. The first store at Bridgeview was operated by Fenton & Ayer. In 1876, bridge builder John Lapp moved to Bridgeview from Wilmington, Delaware and opened a toll bridge over the Rush River connecting Kane County with McDonough County. In 1924, when Interstate highways were created within Cook County, BridgeVIEW became one of the few towns along I-294 that did not become part of that highway system. Today only an occasional person drives by on Route 31 which skirts its borders; no roads lead to or through BridgeVIEW today. BridgeVIEW residents have maintained their community spirit by playing various types of games such as quoits (a type of game where teams try to reach specific goals), hide-and-seek, cornhole (a board gamesimilar to Checkers but with pieces that move like men), tag (a sport involving groups of people trying to catch each other), correspondence football (a sport where players hit a round object with a stick). They also sell homemade jams and jellied fruits called "bridgeberry" which are available year-round at local farmers markets nearby
Bridgeview is an unincorporated community in Cook County, Illinois. It is located on the east side of the Chicago River, about north-west of the city of Chicago.
