Bridgeview, Illinois is a small town located in McLean County, Illinois. The population was 1,486 at the 2000 census. The name of the town originates from "bridge over the river" and refers to a crossing of the Little Rock River that once existed near its current location. Bridgeview is part of the Washington-on-the-Hudson metropolitan area. The first settler in Bridgeview was James Purdy, who arrived in 1814. At that time, the land that now includes Bridgeview was part of what was known as Gallatin Township. In 1827, John Roemer moved to what is now Bridgeview and founded a fur trading post there. Roemer's son, Jacob Roemer, also founded a farm there which he named Roemerowne after himself and his father's home village on the Dutch side of the Delaware River in Pennsylvania. In 1857, David Hecker bought 7 acres (2 hectares) of land from John Roemer for $800 (). He renamed it Heckerstown after himself and built a log cabin there which served as his home until his death in 1892. Hecker had come from Germany via Holland and had settled in Illinois when he purchased this land. Heckerstown became an important community because it hosted local schoolchildren during their winter months when they would cross the Little Rock River to attend school near Peoria Castle on State Road 9A (now US Highway 6). Hecker died suddenly while attending dinner with friends at his home one night in 1896 and was buried at nearby Spring Grove Cemetery without any formal process or burial rites being followed. It has been speculated that this sudden death may have been caused by some type of heart attack; however no definitive evidence exists to support this claim. Because Hecker had no children who could take care of his property following him death, it passed into public domain and became part of Bridgeview through intestacy laws governing succession under Illinois law at that time. On November 15th 1907 – just three years after David Hecker's passing – John Hogg sold 7 acres (2 hectares) adjacent to Heckerstown for $1 million (). This sale represented an occasion when wealthy Germans began moving into Illinois due to new opportunities brought about by Chancellor Otto Bismarck's efforts to open up America via free trade policies such as those implemented during His Majesty King George V's visit to America in May 1906 - an event later called "The Great American Coming". BridgeVIEW soon become known as one of Chicago’s most vibrant neighborhoods due largely to its wide variety of ethnic cultures represented among its residents: Polish Americans (), Italian Americans (), German Americans (), Irish Americans () etc., along with many professional families including physicians (), dentists () etc., attracted by Chicago’s burgeoning medical industry (). Many businesses were established here including record companies like Decca Records (), Putnam Cigars ()) etc., electricians like George Eastman), architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright), builders such as Warren Park Homes ()) etc., while other notable residents included Mayor Richard Muhlenberg), Congressman Emanuel Celler ), Judge Julius Hoffman (!)) etc.,iatters Harry S Truman() etc.. One reason whyBridgeVIEW quickly achieved such notoriety within Chicago’s business world was its relatively low crime rates; Crime rates soared throughout much larger cities during prohibition era ().

Bridgeview is a small town in LaSalle County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,090 at the 2010 census. Bridgeview is located on the west side of the city of Chicago, about south of its downtown area. The first group to settle in Bridgeview were French Canadians who arrived from Quebec in 1808. They built a log cabin and named it Hochelaga. The village was founded by Peter Kilgore and others in 1837 as part of the Township of Chicago Heights. It was incorporated as a Village in 1846. In 1857, George Washington Carver set up his tannery here and became one of Bridgeview's earliest residents. He later donated land for a public school and other civic improvements here. After his death in 1944, his widow donated $10,000 to help build the present-day University Park School (now McDonough School) which opened in 1951. The early days of Bridgeview were difficult with no water or electricity available so residents relied on animal power to do their chores such as harvesting corn or working on their homes from logs that had been cut down nearby during winter months. In 1865, an electric line was completed through Bridgeview enabling resident's access to electricity for lights and cooking facilities; this made life much easier for them! Mining began around here also so there are many reminders of this past activity including two large open pits that still stand today near Highway 59 north of town - these pits were used to extract coal until 1974 when they were closed due to concerns over health dangers posed bycoal dust! After World War II ended, many people left Bridgeview for various reasons such as education or opportunity while others remained and built new homes hereabouts throughout the 1960s into the 1970s watching housing prices rise along with industrial production throughout Chicagoland resulting in increased jobs opportunities all around town! As recently as 1990s most residents still lived within walking distance away from their jobs although some did commute via bus into downtown Chicago; however recent growth has led to more than just single family dwellings being built here anymore but developments such as condominiums/aptments etc.; making this once small community quite unique among Illinois towns!
Bridgeview was founded in 1881 by brothers Isaac and George Washington. The town was named for a bridge over the Fox River that had been built earlier. The first post office opened in 1882. In 1903, the community became a city and was renamed Bridgeview Heights.
