Bridgeview is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 20,912 at the 2010 census. Bridgeview is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Bridgeview was platted in 1871 and named for Alfred Newton Bridge, who had died two years earlier. The first store in the community opened in 1872. It was operated by Mr. and Mrs. Wirtz until their death in 1895. That year, their son Julius Wirtz took over the business and continued it until 1904 when he sold it to his brother-in-law Edward Kahn. Kahn operated the store until 1928 when he sold it to Harry Sennett who ran it until 1970 when it became a part of IHOP Corporation which merged with KFC Worldwide on November 5, 2006 The original millinery shop built by Kahn and Sennett still stands today as does a small number of other buildings from that time including a blacksmith shop (now an automotive parts store), grocer (now known as Arby's), post office (now closed), schoolhouse (now a church) and garage/shop complex (now demolished). In 1911, John Daugherty bought land east of Bridgeview from George Prentice for $3,000 and began developing the site into what would become one of Chicago's most affluent neighborhoods after purchasing much of its surrounding land from Prentice along with several smaller parcels during his own career as an investment banker specializing in mortgage salesmanship In 1924 Daugherty partnered with Adolph Hirschfeldt to develop what would eventually be called "Hirschfeldt Park" on this land southwest of Bridgeview which included many housing developments such as River Oaks, Regency Glen and Montrose Manor There are now several streets associated with Hirschfeldt Park such as North Shore Drive, East Side Drive and Northwest Side Drive within walking distance of each other across Northwest Side Drive from Regency Glen to River Oaks .
