Bridgeview is located on the border of the Chicago metropolitan area and Northern Illinois. It is bordered to the north by Lake Michigan and to the east and south by Decatur Township. Bridgeview was founded in 1868 as a small community along the Milwaukee Road. The town quickly became known for its archery products, which were popular with hunters and sport shooters across Midwest America. In 1984, Bridgeview was one of twelve towns in Cook County that joined together form the Chicago metropolitan area. Grant’s Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Campaign in 1960. In 2001, Bridgeview celebrated 150 years since incorporation as part of Illinois’ centennial celebration program. Over that time period, much has changed within and outside of Bridgeview—most notably through developments such as high-rise apartments (the first being constructed within BridgeVIEW Village limits), online shopping malls (including Searsucker Shopping Center), suburban growth in adjacent townships (such as Lemont Heights), increased truck traffic on local streets (leading to more vehicular congestion on expressways), and changes in agricultural practices which have resulted in diminished water availability for both crops and cattle production near town boundaries
