Bradley, Illinois is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 12,651 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Cook County. The name Bradley comes from George Bradley, who donated land to the town in 1876. The first settler in Bradley was James Fenton who erected a log cabin on the left bank of the Sangamon River in 1837. In 1840, John Fenton and his family moved to Bradley and built a cabin on what is now US-6 south of downtown. They raised livestock and hogs until they bought an interest in a farmstead belonging to David Lawrence in 1846. That year, Jno Pestel settled on land adjoining that of Fenton near present-day State Street and Moultrie Avenue east of what is now First National Bank Drive. He founded Pestel's Grove Creamery which became one of Chicago's largest employers with 1,500 employees at its peak in 1922.
