Bradley is a town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,827 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Kane County and home to Bradley University. The town was named for General George Bradley, who fought in the American Civil War. The first people to live in what is now Bradley were farmers and their families who arrived from New England during the 18th century. By 1871, when the first post office was established in the town, Bradley had a population of just over 100 people. Over time, other industries have moved into the town – including papermaking and printing until it closed its doors in 1984 – but agriculture remains an important part of local life. In addition to farming, Bradley has also been known for manufacturing products such as tractors and tires; leather goods; soap; cigar boxes and other objects made from wood or plastic;among others things. A large number of these Manufacturing businesses closed down during the late 1980s through early 1990s due to competition from Asian countries which were starting to become more industrialized at that time (Tillman-Fetterman 1992). Today’s residents are largely composed of university students who commute into Chicago each day for classes or work opportunities within Kendallville or Evanston Counties (the two largest cities in Kane County) or for jobs outside of Bradley itself (Boyd 2001). Many locals continue to farm while others commute into larger towns for job opportunities because there are no good schools located close by that offer high-quality education within commuting distance (Moses 2008).

Bradley is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. It is located on the banks of the Mississippi River and has a population of only 1,500 residents as of the 2000 census. The name originated from General George Washington's stay there during his Vandalia Expedition in 1782. Bradley was platted in 1836 by John D. Moreland and laid out for wagon trade by James P. Morton. The first store was built in 1839 by Wm. Henson and Poste Hinton at what is now Main Street. A post office was established at Bradley in 1840, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1903. The first school built here was a log cabin erected by Reverend Nathaniel Hawthorne in 1846-47; it became an academy in 1850 and continued to operate until 1862 when it closed due to money troubles. In 1865–66, Bradley Academy built a new building which still stands today on East Main Street (now Post Road). After years of debate over where to locate the new school, it finally opened at its current site on October 6, 1893 amid great celebration among the community members who had helped build it – including many of those who had also been students at the old academy!
