Bradley was founded in 1847 by John Bradley and his family. The village of Bradley was organized in 1868 and became a town on December 1, 1871. The community of Bradley is located along the main north-south road running through its center, as well as a few short roads branching off it. It has a small shopping mall and several churches dotting its streets. In addition to its namesake store - which closed in 2007 - Bradley also had two other stores before that: one operated by Mrs. Aileen Hahn and her husband Don Hahn until it closed in 1984; and one run by C&G's Hardware until it closed in 2006. Bradley first got its name from Captain John Bradley (1814-1859), an American Revolutionary War veteran who fought at Yorktown and Bunker Hill while living near what is now Bradley Village on the south side of the railroad tracks running through town (now east of them). He named his new settlement after himself because he could not find another site with the same name within 150 miles or so of where he lived - hence "Bradley". Telling businesses which opened up around him that they should call their establishments "John's Place", he gradually gained favor with locals over time and became known as "TheFatherOfThe Town". In 1886, when local officials petitioned to have the name changed from "Bradley" to "Springfield" due to growing competition from neighboring towns, John Sargeant granted their request but noted that if villagers wanted to keep using their original names for business purposes then they must do so formally - something which many did anyway since formalities were always preferred over informal communication among friends or family members deemed important for preserving continuity). As Springfield grew more popular than ever before - becoming one of America's most populous cities by 1900 -- Captian John Bradley began losing support among some residents for continuing to use their old name whereas others embraced Springfield as their new home town identity...thus giving birth to today's vibrant community full of descendants of those who once called Bradley home."
