The first post office in Bradley was established in 1868, and it remained open until 1903 when it was closed due to lack of mail service to the town. The first church in Bradley was built in 1879 by Reverend David Heckerstrom and has been used continuously since then. The current church, dedicated on December 17, 2009, is located at 5555 Nacogdoches Rd., just east of I-290 Exit 20A (Bradley Road). It replaced an earlier structure that had been built on land donated by local farmer John Ahern Sr.. In August 2009, the village of Bradley annexed portions of neighboring townships of Arlington Heights and Tinley Park to form a new municipality with a population of 10,000 residents. This move allowed Bradley to annex more acres within its limits while still remaining within Kane County boundaries

Bradley, Illinois is a small town in Normal County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. Bradley was platted in 1871 as part of the larger town of West Side. It is named for General George Bradley who fought in the American Civil War and received an award from President Ulysses S. Grant for his bravery. In 1907, Bradley became a city and has since grown to become one of the most populous towns in Normal County with over 2,500 residents. The first settlement at Bradley was made by men prospecting for coal near present day East North Avenue and West Street. The men built their own cabin on the bluff overlooking South River which they named "Cedar Rapids." They produced enough coal to support themselves and their families until 1872 when railroads arrived and transportation became much easier. Railroad companies began to build tracks east of Bradley and soon there were two stations: one at Cedar Rapids (now called Union Station) and another located just south of town at what is now East North Avenue. The new development led to increased traffic on South River which caused the inhabitants of Cedar Rapids to leave for richer pastures elsewhere. In 1875, a group of businessmen from Chicago bought some land north of town and started to build a cotton gin, flour mill, sawmill and other businesses including one that exported whisky out ofNormalville (the original name). This community came to be known as "Scotchtown" because many Scotch-born people lived there during this time period. The business owners decided to rename their new community after General George Washington because he had been so conspicuously active in helping preserve civilization during the Mexican-American War years earlier when many frontier settlers had also chosen sides against Mexicopox-infected Americans living along the borderlands between Texas & Mexico In 1899 when Normalville was incorporated intoChicago as a village it chose its current name – Bradley – after General George Washington due to its close proximity to both cities while still retaining Scottytown's historical roots The first post office opened in 1898 in Scottytown under then Village Manager John Waugh In 1907 while shopping at Marshall Fields store downtown Normalville resident Mrs Fenton observed soldiers playing air defense games nearby on Field Street; she thereafter christened this street "George Washington Boulevard" in honor of her general's memory During World War II various industries closed down or shifted production away fromBradley due largely military necessity but some remained open like First National Bank where local legend has it that Mayor Harold Wehner saved $25 million by moving cash around using only his fingers ! Today much like those early days before rapid growth changed some aspects such as race relations being tense especially with white flight happening during times such as these recession ridden days things remain basically unchanged including high school graduation rates almost always above 90% thanks largely thoughto strong families values & institutions
