Bradley, Illinois is home to the oldest continuously operating firearms dealership in the Midwest. The gun store, known as The Gun Hut, was founded by George P. Smith in 1897. It continued to be a favorite stop for customers until it closed its doors in 1994. Bradley’s history with firearms goes back even further than that. In 1831, when Bradley was first settled by Germans, they built a small cabin on the site of today’s library. From this location, they began trading goods and services with other settlers in the area. As time went on, Bradley became an important center for trade and commerce within the town. This prosperity led to growth and development within the community over time- such as the construction of roads and schools (1893), a water system (1907), and more! On February 14th, 1911- one year after America entered World War I- The Gun Hut reopened its doors after being shut down for several months due to a fire caused by faulty wiring inside their building. With new ownership came new ideas and plans for how to keep things running smoothly at The Gun Hut- something that has been continuous throughout its reincarnation through several different owners/managers over the years! Today, The Gun Hut continues as an independently owned business that sells all types of firearms including pistols/ammunition/, shotguns/, rifles/, optics/, handguns/, airguns/. Bradley, Illinois had a population of over 100,000 in the early 1800s. The town was founded by Bradley brothers, John and Ezekiel. The first settlers were farmers and their families who built log cabins on the banks of the Des Plaines River. They raised corn, wheat, pigs and chickens. In 1827, Bradley became a village after being chartered by the Illinois General Assembly. It grew rapidly due to its location on the Great Western Railroad and its status as a manufacturing center for hats, shoes and other goods. As Chicago grew larger and more populated, Bradley slowly lost its importance as an agricultural community. By 1900 it had only 10 residents remaining; all of whom were employed in local factories or service businesses such as grocery stores or post office buildings.
Bradley is a small, unincorporated community in McHenry County, Illinois, United States. The population was 521 at the 2010 census. The post office at Bradley was established in 1881, and continued operation until it closed in 1951. The community name honors General George Washington Bradley. One of the first businesses in Bradley was a grocery store owned by Wm. H. Burnett and opened in 1887. A sawmill operated here from 1889 until 1912 when it became too costly to maintain and went out of business. In 1916, a gristmill also became inactive due to competition from larger mills in nearby towns such as Carbondale and Decatur. The Community acquired its current name of Bradley from General George Washington Bradley who fought during World War I as an artilleryman with the 1st Ulysses S Grant's army and later served as Commandant of the Arkansas National Guard Training camp here before retiring to live near Carbondale where he died on October 15th 1923 aged 90 years 6 months 3 days after becoming one of Carbondale's most well-known citizens There are several contributing factors for why the population began decline over time; however, many attribute it to changes brought about by technology that have severed social support systems for rural communities such as agriculture or transportation includinginetwork automobiles which replaced horse drawn vehicles while also reducing access to milk, eggs, flour and other essential items necessary for sustaining civilization

It grew rapidly in the years after it became an incorporated municipality, with a population of 10,000 in 1920 and 25,000 by 1930. When Interstate 95 was built through Bradley in 1956 and snarled its way through town center like an avalanche of logs, villagers banded together to fight against the highway. The fight continued until 1959 when I-95 was finally routed around town on new expressways parallel to the railroad tracks. From then on, Bradley flourished as an industrial center complete with heavy manufacturing plants such as Kenwood Radio Corp., General Electric Co., Du Pont Power Corporation and Chrysler Corporation among others. However, during World War II Bradley also became one of the most important military sites in central Illinois due to its proximity to Lake Michigan and strategic location near Ford Motor Company's major plant at Highland Park along I-94
Bradley was founded in 1871 by J.C. Bradley and his brother, John C. Bradley. The town was named after J.C.'s father, who had died in 1857. In 1909, the town opened its first school and post office. The first store was built in 1911 on a lot donated by the Bradleys. In 1917, the Bradley brothers donated land for a new high school that would serve Bradley and neighboring towns until 1954 when it merged with Joliet to form Joliet-Bradley High School District No. 1
