Bloomingdale had been platted in 1888 by Ambrose Ewing Jr., son of President James K. Polk's ambassador to France during the American Revolution and later Ulysses S. Grant's Secretary of State under Ulysses S. Grant and Abraham Lincoln respectively. bloomingdale was disbanded following its incorporation into village in 1902; it reverted back to its original name four years later when Bradley came into existence as an unincorporated community within Kane County.
