In 1860, Bradley became one of seventeen townships in Kane County when it was created from parts of Cook, DuPage and Will counties. On November 4, 1870, it incorporate as a village with a population of 501 residents. On February 28, 1902, it incorporated as a city with a population exceeding 3,000 residents. In 1912-13 its name changed to Bradley because the original site for City Hall would be donated by local farmer John Wagoner Bradley to be used as such According to the 2010 census (which has since been revised), Bradley's total population is 779 people; 624 males and 97 females

Bradley, Illinois is a small town located in Kane County, Illinois. The population of Bradley was 1,811 at the 2010 census. Bradley is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first settlers in Bradley were white men from New York City who arrived in 1811. The town was named after General John A.Bradley and his unit of American soldiers who helped suppress Native American resistance during the War of 1812. The first post office opened in 1814 and the first store was built in 1821. In 1827, a school was founded and soon became known as one of the best schools in Kane County. In 1865, when Abraham Lincoln was elected President, he had to leave Chicago for appearances across the United States and returned to Chicago on April 12th but left behind his vice president, James Buchanan. On that day, Confederate Major General Nathan Bedford Forrest surrendered at Fort Donelson near Knoxville Tennessee and two days later Lincoln issued an order freeing all Union slaves within six months or they would be taken by force into slavery themselves. This event is commonly referred to as "Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation." After Reconstruction ended with Brown v Board of Education (1962), many African Americans began migrating to Bradley due to job opportunities available outside of America's then-segregated society. By 1970, black Bradleyians made up about 50 percent of the town's population while white residents constituted 50 percent of its total workforce; however this percentage has since decreased significantly due to various social issues such as poverty and crime rates among minority communities throughout Illinois which have disproportionately affected black populations specifically. Today little remains from what once thrived here: only a handful churches remain standing from when many local businesses closed down during prohibition; one man still grows corn on his family’s farmstead; Pioneer Hall now houses a library branch; and a small amount of development can be found scattered around town center including an elementary school/community college complex (opened in 1998), two parks (one dating back to 1926), several convenience stores/Grocery stores/Bakery shops (all closed 2007) as well as numerous homes used forstorage now surrounded by farmland once irrigated by local farmers
