Bourbonnais is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Bourbonnais was founded in 1839 by James Bourg and is named after the French wine grape, Bourg-du-Foucault. The first scopes were built in Bourbonnais in 1847 by John Cernan and Samuel Morse. In 1857, General Zachary Taylor visited Bourbonnais and ordered that all scopes be destroyed to discourage piracy. In 1886, Nicholas Ray set up his camera lab on Montrose Avenue in downtown Bourbonnais. He was instrumental in popularizing photography and helped make bourbonnais one of the top tourist destinations for photography enthusiasts around the world. In 1925, bourbonnais became an incorporated community with a post office called "Bourbonnasais". In 1955, it changed its name to "BourbonnaIS". On July 1, 1975, it joined with other towns within Cook County to form the Chicago metropolitan area

Bourbonnais became a city on December 29, 1907 with the merger of two other towns: Franklin and Mount Prospect. On November 3, 1984, it became a state-chartered city subject to the same laws as Cook County. The original downtown business district now contains over 100 stores and restaurants including Macy's department stores, Sears and Kmart, Dunkin' Donuts and Peet's Coffee & Tea*. The city has also undertaken several redevelopment projects such as River North Center which includes an outdoor mall with restaurants and movie theaters; Northwest Branch Library; Menard Place Shopping Center which includes anchor tenants Sears, JCPenney and Kleinfeld Jewelers; Bridgwater Landing development adjacent to Green River Boatyard; Fulton Park located adjacent to Watertown Commons shopping center *These developments were completed between 2006-2009

The area around where Bourbonnais now stands was once home to numerous French-Canadian settlements, including Sainte-Foy and Pointe Coupee. These communities were founded as part of the process known as New France colonization—a time when America was still under British rule. During this time period, many French Canadians migrated to what is now Illinois; some even settled in what is now Hancock County (which at that time included parts of central Illinois). As America grew increasingly prosperous during the 1830s and 1840s, more and more people decided to move westward into new territory: land that would eventually become Ohio and Kansas. Many French Canadian settlers who had already settled in Ohio andKansas turned their attention to locating a new home in what is now Illinois due to its promising farmland and water resources. This migration led to the founding of many new communities along the Kankakee River – most notably Sainte-Foy (later renamed Bourbonnais) and Pointe Coupee (later renamed Decatur). Whilebourbonnasians have often been proud participants within their local community cultures - both before AND after merging with other neighboring towns - there has also been an evident sense among many residents that they maintain their own unique identitywithinHancockCounty despite having shared boundaries with others for over 150 years! In 1951, when bourbonnais merged with Decatur for political reasons - effectively creating Hancock County - many residents felt outsourcementof their cultural traditions made sense given today’s global economy setting trends which constantly challenge traditional ways Of life & work
Bourbonnais, Illinois was first settled in 1813. The town was named after the Bourbonneuse River, which runs through it. It was chartered in 1837 and incorporated as a village in 1851. The population of the town increased from around 100 to over 1,000 by 1860. By 1870, Bourbonnais had become a city with a population of over 5,000 people.
