The Bourbons were pioneers in this region and are credited with helping to create what is now Bourbonnais Township on the west side of Chicago in 1847. The Bourbons also founded four other villages in Cook County: Mount Prospect, Deerfield, Elmhurst and Englewood. In 1881, J.P. Morgan bought land near present-day corner of Kildeer Avenue and Park Boulevard in Bourbonnais Township for his new company Morgan Guaranty Trust Company; he named it after his birthplace of Bourbonnais, France. It was first called "Morgan's Island." Other businesses that grew up around the Morgan Guaranty Trust Company included the Chicago Gas Light & Coke Company (now GEICO), First National Bank (now UBS), and Armour Brickyard which built one of Chicagos most famous buildings - Tribune Tower - on Merchandise Mart Boulevard between North Side streets and Wicker Drive east of I-71/I-90/Upper West Side highways. This building served as both an office tower and a shopping mall from its opening until it was destroyed by fire in 1996 when Sears Holdings Corporation moved into the building vacated by Tribune Tower. Today only a ghost remains from that era - an elderly woman seen walking along Merchandise Mart Boulevard between North Side streets and Wicker Drive east of I-71/I-90/Upper West Side highways at about 5 p.m., often photographed or videotaped by drivers before she disappears into thin air without warning

Bourbonnais, Illinois is a small town in Kane County, Illinois on the Fox River. The population was 1,878 at the 2000 census. It was named after Colonel James Bourbon, who fought in the Mexican-American War. The Bourbons arrived in 1811 and had two sons, John and Louis. They started a farmstead on the banks of the Fox River. In 1824 they sold their farm to Pemberton Pike. The Bourbons were Democrats until Abraham Lincoln won the 1860 Ulysses S Grant election as President of United States and then decided to run for office as a Bourbonnaiis Republican. After he lost that race, he moved to Springfield where he became Mayor of that city from 1865 to 1870 and again from 1871 to 1875 before running for U.S Senate in 1880 but losing by only 12 votes against incumbent Benjamin Harrison instead of winning him over with his populist policies like free land sales to farmers and improving schools). After his time as Senator he founded his own banking firm called The Bourbons & Company which still operates today out of its original location on Main Street in Bourbonnais (just past IKEA). He also served on many civic boards including being president of both Kane County Agricultural Society and Kane County Democratic Central Committee (the precursor to today's Kane County Board of Commissioners). He died at home on November 4th, 1902 due to pneumonia brought about by a cold caused by an old case of tuberculosis which he had been dealing with since 1881 or earlier when it first got bad enough so that he could no longer travel outside Missouri without getting sick again). He was interred next to his wife Lucy at Bellefontaine Cemeterystone Park near downtown Champaign IL.]
