Bourbonnais is a small town in southern Illinois, located about 20 miles west of the city of Chicago. The population was 1,512 at the 2010 census. It has been home to Roy Stone farmers since 1857. The town is named after Robert Bourbon, an American Revolutionary War general and U.S. congressman from Kentucky who was killed at the Battle of Saratoga in 1777. The first buildings in Bourbonnais were a log cabin built by John Ladd in 1824. In 1830, a sawmill and gristmill were erected on the site of present-day downtown Bourbonnais by Hiram Burroughs and his son Isaac Burroughs Sr.. The townsite was laid out as a village on February 14, 1835, by James Payson Willis with Wm Hays as its first mayor. On November 15, 1840, the Village of Bourbonnais formally became a town under the terms of an act passed by the State General Assembly at Springfield that year. On October 9, 1853, local citizens voted to annex part of neighboring Kilbourne Township because they felt their community was being left behind economically by larger neighbor communities such as Chicago (then known as “the Townships”). On December 4th Mayor Willis filed papers with the Illinois State Legislature to annex Kilbourne Township specifically because it had fallen behind in economic development; this annexation became effective on January 1st, 1954. The following year saw another growth spurt for bourbonnais with construction begin on what would become known as “the old stone house” which still stands today within walking distance of downtown Bourbonnais off US Highway 131A southbound just south of I-10 exit 63C/64E – making it easy for locals and tourists alike to visit this interesting building both inside and out! This impressive structure served not only as the headquarters for post office operations during World War II but also acted as both a movie theater (1939-1945) and live music venue during its heyday starting in the early 1940s until shortly before its closure due to fire damage in 1990; however new restoration efforts are currently underway which could reopen this historic structure soon! A few blocks away from where “the old stone house” once stood lives now one of America’s most famous steak houses - Louis Armstrong International Airport - having begun serving customers right outside their door back when aviation began expanding rapidly into central Illinois!
