After college students moved out during the Great Depression, Bolingbrook's population resumed growth with new housing being built around Halsted Street and Wabash Avenue in what would become its commercial district. In 1940, when Joliet was annexed into Chicago, Bolingbrok became an urbanvillage subject to city regulations but remained self-governing within its own governmental structure; it has since experienced significant growth in nationalist movements such as Chicano separatism which have led to some tension with city authorities over issues like zoning changes that might impact commuter flows through town center streets). Starting in 1948,bolingbrook also became known as "the City That Cried" because so much local produce went to support soldiers during The Korean War (1950-1953). Bolingbrook's economy changed after World War II with large numbers of people moving into suburbia across Cook County; however, Bolingbrook has continued to maintain an essentially rural character with its primary industries being agriculture and tourism
