Bolingbrook is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 27,895 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area and is bordered to the south by Cook County and to the north by DuPage County. Bolingbrook was first settled in 1836 as a small community on Chicago's historic "Old Northwest Side", east of what is now West Side Highway. In 1838, Bolingbrook became one of three villages in what would become Cook County – along with Lemont and Skokie – when all of Cook County were organized into a single unit under the name of "Cook county". The village had 1,500 residents when it became part of Cook county. The Village Hall was built in 1912 and has been used for many purposes including office space, government meetings, concerts and other events over the years. The current building replaced an earlier structure which served as the village hall from 1892 until 1912. In 1957, Bolingbrook annexed land adjoining its southern border to create new township (and later township) called Belmont Heights; this annexation led to increased growth adjacent to Bolingbrook as more people moved into or began shopping areas around South Park Boulevard. In 1951, Bolingbrook voters approved a $5 million bond issue for infrastructure projects such as better roads and schools that would improve economic development within their township boundaries. This bond issue allowed for further annexations within Belmont Heights leading to today's total population size of 397 dwellings (as of 2010). Today, Bolingbrook continues its rich history with many events taking place throughout year including various cultural performances by local bands/artists or walks through its historic buildings especially during Heritage Month which falls during October- November each year.
