In 1898, Phelps donated land east of State Street for what would become Park Ridge Cemetery which remain today one of Chicago's most popular tourist destinations with its elegant makeup including rolling hills and wide streetscape typical of rural Illinois back then (it closed its doors in 1984). It wasn't until 1916 that Bolingbrook received its current name – after Peter Kolping – when it annexed part of neighboring Elgin Township which had been known as White Settlement since 1698 when Englishmen took over muchof Illinois south of Joliette Lake due to Indian attacks thereabouts throughout that period. Thereafter many other settlements followed suit: Black Hawk Heights (1927), Elmhurst (1928), Hinsdale Heights (1929), Arlington Heights (1930), Glenview Heights (1931), Wheaton Hills(1932)and finally Rosemont Gardens(1965).
