When the first Europeans arrived in what is now Bolingbrook, Illinois about 1670, they were seeking a new home for their families and their horses. They were not interested in the local Native Americans who had been living here for centuries. The Europeans were more interested in finding valuable natural resources and land to farm. The natives did not have any tools or weapons that could kill large animals so they didn’t quite understand why the newcomers wanted to live here. Eventually, the Europeans learned that the natives weren’t attacking them so much as gathering food from the land and trade goods with them. So they began trading knives with the natives and eventually became friends. In 1773, a group of European traders set out from North America on horseback to explore this new land we call today Illinois. One of these traders was John Custer who traveled down what is now I-90 in search of gold prospectors. When he reached Bolingbrook he decided to stay because it seemed like a good place to start his new business venture Shopping For Gold! At first this was successful but around 1847 things started going wrong for him when other entrepreneurs came into town looking for mining properties too rich to be bought by Custer – including his old friend, James Kistler! The people of Bolingbrook quickly got together and formed their own society where knives played an important role as part of daily life. This society was known as “The Knifemen” because they lived primarily off of hunting and fishing opportunities rather than manufacturing anything themselves like we do today! Over time, some members decided that makingknives wasn't really their thing anymore so they sold their businesses or retired (most likely due to boredom). But even though knife making stopped being an important part of our society many people still remember all those years ago when knifemen used sharpened blades to hunt, fish, cook and defend themselves against threats both real and imagined!

Bolingbrook, Illinois is a city in the U.S. state of Illinois. The population was 129,824 at the 2010 census and has since grown to over 250,000 residents. Bolingbrook is located in the northwest corner of Cook County and is bordered by DeKalb County to the north, Kane County to the east, Champaign County to the south, and Urbana Township to the west. It lies on a large tract of rolling farmland that slopes gently down from Chicago's eastern skyline towards Lake Michigan. The area around Bolingbrook was first settled by Native Americans in this location as early as 1797. In 1803, John Stephenson founded a small community here called Stephensonville after purchasing land from his Indian friends for $1 per acre (or $10 per square mile). In 1857, John Crain donated land near what is now Elmwood Park for a new town center and named it Bolingbrook after himself and his father-in-law Isaac Newton Briggs. The first white settlers arrived in 1860 and began building homes around what is now Elmwood Park. By 1870, Bolingbrook had become an established village with a post office, jail, schoolhouse (now used as apartments), churches (two Greek Revival style buildings remain standing), taverns/cocktails lounge/grille businesses (later known as Lula’s Lounge), public library (1871), two hotels/motels (the Ritz Carlton Hotel opened in 1888 and burned down in 1908), three grocery stores/convenience stores/gas stations (!—these were built later but are still extant; one was converted into an apartment complex; another closed about 1990)), two banks/credit unions (!— THESE ARE NOW A CONVENTION CENTER AND A BUSINESS PARK)), two golf courses (/ these were also built later but are no longer extant)), four industrial parks ((four until recently—-one closed about 1990))], thirteen agricultural businesses/, thirty-six medical centers/, ten amusement park attractions/, twenty-six villages (), six manufacturing companies (/ these have all since closed or been merged into larger companies; some still exist such as JBL Audio Inc.), one professional sports team (/ this team moved from Joliet IL to Bloomington IN in 2013]), twelve high schools ([ eleven public] /[ one private]/)and four universities (). Bolingbrook has always been home to many professionals including doctors, lawyers, engineers and scientists who have made their mark on local life through their work or study hereabouts. Some examples include: KFC creator Colonel Sanders' childhood home still stands near downtown Bolingbrok ; Robert Erikson's old family home on Montrose Avenue ; Bill Gates 'Paul Allen School' which he attended before moving on to Harvard University ; Dick Cheney 'Cheney High School'. The city also hosted several World Series games between different teams including the Chicago Cubs () , St Louis Cardinals () , Cleveland Indians () . Today Bolingbrook continues its role as an hub for commerce with numerous retail outlets along with physician offices across various disciplines including dentists (), podiatrists (), veterinarians (), optometrists ()) .
