When this store closed its doors, George and Martha bought land at Michigan Avenue and Lawndale Boulevard to build what is now known as Ford's Theatre. In 1875, they sold their theater business to James K. Polk Sr., who renamed it The Ford Center forthe Performing Arts. In 1902, Mayor John Fitzgerald announced plans for Bolingbrook to become an incorporated town with a population of 25-40 thousand people. This plan met opposition from some residents because they felt that incorporation would give away too much control to small businesses while leaving them behind when new industry arrived in town. Nevertheless, Mayor Fitzgerald followed through with his plan and on October 1st, 1903 incorporation occurred with a population of 381 inhabitants
