Bolingbrook is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,831 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Bolingbrook was formed from a merger of two smaller villages on May 12, 1868. It is named after John Bolingbroke, 3rd Viscount Bolingbroke and his wife Sarah Churchill. The village had a population of 1,600 in 1870 and 2,225 in 1880. In 1925 the Village had a population of 4,412 and by 1990 it had decreased to 2,831 people. The first settler in what would become Bolingbrook was Levi Coffin who built a cabin on the east side of Bald Oak Creek on July 10th, 1827. He followed this with another cabin called "Moses" also on Bald Oak Creek about two miles south of present day Bolingbrooks north east corner (just off State Route 6). By 1830 there were ten cabins along Bald Oak Creek alone! In 1847 Isaac Dunham moved to Dolores Township from West Moline where he had been hired as an overseer by David Lewisvorhough located near Beloit Junction Railroad Depot which now stands across the street from Pioneer Ford dealership/gas station/publishers office complex at 5252 N Lincoln Ave.. There are several reports that Abraham Lincoln stopped at Dunham’s farm while en route to Joliet forays into northern Illinois during these years so one can only imagine what an impact this man’s visit must have had upon this isolated community situated just outside of Chicago limits! The post office here opened on December 9th 1850 under name “Beloit” but changed its name to “Dolores” on January 8th 1861 due to increasing mail volume which led to increased competition among local residents for postal service! A new belvidere depot was built about one mile west of Dolores Station Road and served both villages until 1915 when it too closed due to dwindling mail volumes! From 1865-1868 Ft Dearborn House & Store operated out front on Wabash Avenue opposite current day First Baptist Church building before moving inside next door at 5011 Nw Belmont Ave in 1889 where they remain today! After death of Mrs Dearborn’s husband Rev James Dearborn took over operations until his own death in 1916 then hands passed down thru family members until 1934 when ownership went thru Mr JDearborn Trustee who sold it back to descendants Of Abraham Lincoln Jan 15 1944!!!!! So village has experienced many changes throughout its history including many changes hands!!

Bolingbrook was founded on October 10, 1847 by Nicholas Gisin and his brother-in-law John Pritzker as a small village called "Bolingbroke". It became an incorporated town on December 12 of that year. On November 3, 1868, it became a City when it passed a referendum to become one. The current name of the city comes from its location in what was then part of the Town of Bolingbroke.
