George Hough moved his business operations to Bolingbrook from Peru Township in1846 because he found it morecongruent with his mission as an Americanizer ofthe Sauk Tribe to raise crops than build schools orchurches for their children here. Founded by GeorgeHough Sr., The Galt House Hotel (now known as Park Hyatt) opened its doors for guests during1847–48; it remains one of the oldest continually operating hotelsin Chicago. Bolingbrook is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 28,391 at the 2010 census. Bolingbrook is the ninth most populous city in Chicago and the fifteenth most populous city in Illinois. Bolingbrook was founded on November 10, 1868, by John C. Bolinger and his wife Eliza Jane Hutton as a small farming community named after Edward Bolinger, John's brother-in-law from England who had come to America to find land for himself and his family. The town was renamed after Abraham Lincoln on December 1, 1868. It first attracted people for its fertile soil and clean air; however, it was not until the early 20th century that Bolingbrook became an important center of business in the area. During this time period, it became home to several large businesses including Ford Motor Company (1915), Armour Candles (1925), Sears Roebuck & Co (1928), Edison Electric Illuminating Company (1936), ILWU Local No. 268 (1945) and Coca-Cola Bottling plants Nos 2 and 3 (1950). The current incarnation of Bolingbrook began to take shape during World War II when many of the industries that had thrived before were taken over by government agencies or purchased by larger corporations. Industry revived following the war with new companies such as American Cyanamid Corporation (formerly Belknap Chemicals) locating here and beginning operations at what is now called "The Factory" on West Fullerton Avenue near Kedzie Avenue. This period also saw significant growth in housing - both single-family homes and apartment buildings - which continues to be an important part of the community today. After years of steady growth throughout the 1960s through 1980s, immigration began to increase significantly throughout this decade with Asians making up 50% of all residents by 1990; however, recent declines have reversed some longstanding trends around immigration levels overall while continuing to impact bolingbrokerhood economically nonetheless
