Blue Island, Illinois is a small town located in the northwestern part of the state of Illinois. The population was 3,824 at the 2010 census. It is bordered by Carpentersville to the north and east, North Manchester to the south, and Jacksonville to the west. The village of Blue Island is located on Lake Michigan just east of its border with North Manchester. The community was first settled in 1836 by Swedish immigrants who were seeking land for their new colony in what is now northeastern Illinois. The original name for Blue Island was "Muckronee". Muckronee Creek flows through Blue Island and gives it its name. In 1841, Jameson & Sons erected a mill on Muckronee Creek which served as the center of local economic life until it closed in 1906. The first post office opened in 1838 and remained open until 1935. In 1881, Blue Island became a station on Chicago's Underground Railroad network allowing fugitive slaves to escape from slaveholding states during the American Civil War. In 1886, Danish immigrants started farming on what is now northwest corner of Township Road 516 and Township Road 620 near present-day Eastown Beach Drive/Lake Michigan Boulevard (Interstate 90). They named their farm "Elling" after one of their number who had been lost during the war years along with his family back home in Denmark." Elling" continued to be used as an agricultural designation until 1959 when it was changed to "Blue island". This early organized farming activity allowed for larger scale development within Blue island over time as people began buying tracts of land here for housing developments or other uses including: shopping centers (1948), a water plant (1955), hospitals (1965), businesses such as car dealerships (1966) or amusement parks (1978). However these days most residents live close by either using public transportation or working out at one of several nearby businesses that provide access to bothpublic transportation and personal vehicle parking Spaces are usually available meters while many stores offer shuttle service between them which takes you right downtown if you need something specific before leaving

Blue Island, Illinois is a small town in Sangamon County, Illinois. The population was 1,953 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The town was organized on April 20, 1847 from the merger of two other towns - Blue Island and Brighton - by a vote of 5 to 2. The first post office opened in November 1847. The first settler on Blue Island (then known as "Angle Harbor") was John Pritchard. In 1853, one mile west of Blue Island was founded what would become Aurora Heights. Aurora Heights had a Baptist church and it became a popular shopping center for farmers in the area because there were no grocery stores available east of Chicago at that time. In 1871, another land grant was made to Jno Hahn which included much of present-day Blue Island and most of Whatcom Township including the current site of Gurnee Park Shopping Center (now owned by Sears Roebuck & Co.). This grant also included parts of what are now Addison and Schaumburg counties in Illinois. The first post office in what is now Blue Island reopened on October 6, 1872 under the name "Angle Harbor". In 1880, both Angle Harbor and blue island were combined into one village with a combined population of 1,500 residents; however this village only lasted until 1886 when it merged with neighboring Brighton to form new Village #1 which still exists today as part of Blue Island Township
