Blue Island, Illinois is a city located in the northeastern section of the state of Illinois. The population was 397 at the 2010 census. The name "Blue Island" comes from a natural color found on the island in Lake Michigan. The city was founded in 1857 by men who came overland from Michigan and were looking for land to settle. By 1865, there were over 100 people living in Blue Island. The first business opened in 1867 and it was called the General Store. In 1870, a post office was established and named Blue Island after the island's natural color. In 1907, an express train ran betweenChicago and St Louis carrying mail and passengers until 1908 when it replaced stagecoach transportation. At that time, Blue Island had two small stores and one restaurant which served food until 1915 when a new grocery store opened which became known as TheSupermarket later that year. A fire destroyed most of the town on November 25th 1916 but due to salvage efforts by citizens, including Mrs Daley who supervised operations at her grocery store (now demolished), most of what burned still stands today such as buildings number 2 & 3 on Main Street, building 4 on Third Avenue south of US-1 (now part of Hennepin County’s State Capitol Complex), five blocks east of Independence Mall on North First Street (now part of IHOP), four blocks west of Wrigley Field across Midway Road from Sears Tower, two blocks north-northeast corner of Kresser Avenue/Sears Boulevard between Second Street/US- 71 Bus Terminal Waymarking Route 66 (later Chicago) - now occupied by Applebees - two blocks southeast corner US-71 Business Loop just southwest corner current day intersection with Kresser Avenue/Sears Boulevard near community college; all without any homes or businesses remaining standing that can be seen today despite being severely damaged during multiple fires Blue Island saw many changes during its history.

Blue Island is a small town located in the Homer Township of McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. In 1941-1942 (during World War II), several local businesses conducted secret military sales to support the war effort; these sales are now known as "The GI Sale". In 1951-1952 (during the early years of Mayor James Whelan's administration),blue island built its first fire station which still stands today on Main Street near where Today's First Baptist Church used to stand. This station served as Backup Station for all stations within Springfield Township until 1978 when that station became independent and operated from its own building on State Street in Blue Island proper. From 1974 until 2001 when it merged with Springfield's School District #2, Blue Island had its own Board of Education which managed daycare and other services for students from pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8th grade along with providing instruction for related vocational training programs offered by area businesses or schools within Greenfield Township outside of school hours). In addition to these businesses various enterprises such as fishing (the first significant commercial activity), beekeeping, wagon making and farming also flourished during this time period before disappearing during prohibition times when most agricultural production ceased along with much social activity due to lack of available transportation or Prohibition-related inns being closed down altogether or converted into speakeasies etcetera HOUSING: Most residents lived on main square where shops and residences lined both sides thereof with additional streets running east-west connecting them forming a grid pattern typical for early twentieth century America This layout provided plenty of room for expansion but also limited storefront space since almost all businesses were located inside buildings rather than outside on open ground which would have made retailing difficult If necessary two or more businesses could share an alley if necessary but again this type found little use because railroad lines crossed town limits near each individual building A single storefront proved too scarce so Bryon Daly built himself a three story brick building at 5th & State Streets – now known as Town Hall – serving both local government needs such as tax assessment services as well as providing extra floor space for his grocery store while continuing to lease out portions of his land to other merchants In 1916 Palmer passed away leaving control of Bryon Daly's property to his son who continued operation until 1950 When Resurrection Hill took over ownership they demolished everything except Town Hall which remain today
