Bloomingdale was a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States, until the 1940s. It is now a ghost town. The first settlers in Bloomingdale were farmers who arrived around 1848. By 1875, the population had grown to over 100 and by 1907 it had reached 350. At its peak, Bloomingdale employed over 240 people. However, by the late 1920s it had shrunk to just 50 residents and by 1940 only 10 remained. In 1941, the post office was moved from Bloomingdale to nearby Wheaton and Bloomfield also lost their post offices in that decade. Finally, in 1947-48 when all of Cook County was added to the United States government as part of the American Revolution process - Bloomingdale went extinct as a result of being annexed into Wheaton Township and its post office becoming too remote for most residents to reach or visit on foot or bike; even today there are few remaining descendants of those original founders living within sight or sound of Bloomingdale Intermediate School (now Bluffton High School) which is located less than one mile away from where they once lived. Although not an obliterated community like Wheaton Township which became completely rural after statehood - Bloomingdale nevertheless likely experienced significant decline due primarily to factors such as high unemployment rates during World War II and then Cold War suburbanization which led many families moving out ofBloomfield altogether towards larger townships closer to jobs and services while also reducing access to education opportunities for its citizens; eventually leading most residents either selling their homes or moving away entirely when they no longer needed them – although some may still remain hidden among brushy open fields near Highway 69 outside of Bluffton).
