In 1876, Bloomingdale entrepreneur and local farmer John H. Sears began manufacturing his own binoculars. At first, the products were designed for normal use as farm tools; but soon after their release, Sears realized that he could improve on these crude devices by making them more effective at spotting animals in the field or surveying distant landmarks. Sears’s improvements led to a rapid growth in the market for binoculars, with sales peaking in 1888. This growth was due in part to advances in technology and design, as well as to Sears’s marketing strategy of targeting farmers and other outdoor enthusiasts with his new product. In addition to expanding into other markets, Sears also developed new models of binoculars that became popular among hunters and birdwatchers. By 1912, he had sold over two million binoculars worldwide. Despite its success during its early years, binocular production eventually came to a halt due to technological advancements and World War I efforts to expand military interests throughout Europe. However, this did not mean that sales ofbinoculars went away; they enjoyed a resurgence beginning in the 1920s thanks to new advertising campaigns and innovations from manufacturers like Leica AG (now known as Facebook). Bloomingdale is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 41,569 at the 2010 census. Bloomingdale is the largest city in the Chicago metropolitan area and one of the most populous cities in Illinois. The name "Bloomingdale" comes from Englishman Sir John Bligh's landing on Lake Michigan in 1795 and his attempt to create a new township there. Bloomingdale was incorporated as a city on December 14, 1851. Bloomingdale is located between the Chicago neighborhoods of West Side and Lincoln Park on the south side of Cicero Avenue. The first Europeans to visit what is now Bloomingdale were French traders who landed on May 5, 1795 during their voyage from Quebec City to Detroit with supplies for General George Washington's army during the American Revolution. They named their landing Point du Lac after Mount Pulaski in Georgia which they had seen while traveling through that state en route to Detroit. On July 8, 1814, Abraham Lincoln and Joshua Speed arrived at Prairie du Chien (now Waukesha) under command of Commodore John Rodgers while exploring what would become Wisconsin Territory west of Chicago Heights across the Mississippi River from present-day Bloomingdale Township on Cumberland Road. Rodgers ordered Lincoln and Speed to explore this new land and determine its suitability for settlement by white men; they chose this location because it lay between two major rivers: the Fox River on one side and Lake Michigan on the other – perfect for transportation purposes due to its many lakeside ponds along both banks. Chicagoland's first white settler was James Kapp who bought 640 acres (248 ha) near present day Elmhurst Avenue/Haggerty Street from Nicholas Deboyis in 1827 (the same year that he founded Haggerty Township). In 1839 when Indiana became part of United States it included all present-day Illinois except for parts of Upper Canada including Bloomingdale Township which became part of Toronto County. On January 1, 1840 Indiana conferred upon Ottawa County - eastoftheChicago Rivers boundary - all but 3 square miles (8 km²) of current Bloomingdale Township within Toronto County including site of what would become Northbrook Village before Ottawa County dissolved into Ontario Province following Confederation that year; all remaining territory became part of Cook County following incorporation by Governor Adam Crampton on February 15th 1850 as planned pursuant to Article III Section 2(a) Of The Constitution Of The United States - "That every county within this state be erected into a municipal corporation having power To provide an election annually OF A Mayor And Aldermen Erecting An opacity fence round their said corporate limits And All Other lawful Powers incident thereto". Northbrook Village thus developed adjacent to modern-day Northwestern Boulevard just north of Danforth Avenue where today’s Old State Capitol building stands vacant since 1959 despite calls by community groups for its razing as part of vehicle recycling programs approved by then-Governor Richard J Daley during his final term prior to being replaced by Barack Obama later that year effective January 1st 2011... In 1861 when Walker sold his interest in Northbrook Village development rights back to Nicholas Deboyis after years lobbying efforts led by community leader Rockford Machine Shop owner Al Smith[1], developers began fully developing Northbrook Village.... Bloomingdale is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 37,752 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest town in Cook County and one of the most populous towns in Illinois. Bloomingdale was first settled in 1836 by German Americans who came to America from Germany. The name derives from "Boulevard" or "Bloomingdale Boulevard". The Chicago and North Western Railway built a line through Bloomingdale in 1854, which made it possible for people to live near Downtown Chicago without having to go too far out. In 1876, the City of Bloomingdale was incorporated as a village; it remained an unincorporated community until 1914 when it became part of the city of Chicago. In 1907, Mayor Charles Wickersham proposed that Bloomingdale be annexed into the city ofChicago; but because there were no plans for large housing projects in what was then rural Cook County, the proposal failed to gain traction and never came to fruition. In 1925, Congress passed an act annexing all municipalities within its boundaries within two years if approved by a referendum; this plan failed to pass due to opposition from Mayor Harry Kelly. In 1938, following World War II servicemen's return home and reconstruction efforts following bombings on Chicago during that time period, Mayor Philip Bergman announced that he would like to see development occur around what had been called "The Ghetto" on State Street just east of downtown - now known as Midtown - because he felt that this area would be rich with potential businesses and homes. To date there has not been any significant development occurred around The Ghetto area – although plans are currently being developed for a mixed-use redevelopment project known as The Strip District adjacent to Soldier Field sports venue (the new Cubs home).
