The town was named after General George Washington's birthplace on the Potomac River. Berwyn was incorporated as a village on December 15, 1869. The first Post Office at Berwyn opened on November 12th, 1875. As of the 2010 census, there were 9,872 people living in Berwyn. Of these, 7% were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
