The town was originally founded in 1837 as a log cabin community. By 1860, it had become a small farming community with about fifty residents. In 1907, Bensenville became an incorporated village with a population of around one hundred people. In 1933, Bensenville was designated as an agricultural center for Cook County and began to grow rapidly as a result. In 1984, Bensenville became an unincorporated community again and has since experienced significant growth throughout its history. Today, Bensenville retains much of its rural character but has also seen significant progress in both economic development and cultural pursuits over the years.
