Bensenville, Illinois was founded in 1847 and has been a community since that time. The area now known as Bensenville was originally part of the Township of Round Rock, which was also located in Williamson County. In 1871, the township was renamed to Bensenville after Major General George Bensen who served in the Union Army during the American Civil War. In 1898, the village of Bensenville was organized from parts of Round Rock and Gillespie counties. The first mayor of Bensenville was Wm. H. Bates and the first constable was Jno. Lampley.
Bensenville, Illinois is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 15,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Bensenville was founded by George Bensen in 1847 as a small community on the banks of the Menomonee River. The town grew rapidly and by 1875 it had a population of 509 people. In 1902, Bensenville became one of the first towns in Cook County to be annexed into Chicago. By 1990, Bensenville had grown to its current size with over 20,000 residents. Bensenville is located at (41°10'18" N 88°24'03" W). According to the 2010 census, its total area is 26 square miles (68 km²). Of this, 22 square miles (60 km²) are land and 8 square miles (20 km²) are water or wetlands. The village of Arlington Heights lies immediately south of Bensenville and includes much of what now makes up Bensenville proper; it was incorporated February 6th 1910 and has an estimated population of 25,801 as of 2016 according to the most recent census estimates from United States Census Bureau's American Community Survey for that year. The Village merged with other villages within Cook County effective January 1st 2020: North Aurora-Antioch on August 24th 2018; Oak Forest on October 5th 2019; Hanover Park on December 14th 2020; Lincolnwood-Griffith Park on February 3rd 2022; Willow Brook-Belmont Shoreline on May 12th 2024

Bensenville is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 8,631 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The name "Bensenville" comes from George Bensen, who bought the land in 1847. The first post office was established in 1851. In 1886, Bensenville became a city and has since grown to become one of the most populous towns in Cook County with over 12,000 residents as of 2010. The first settlers to arrive in what is now Bensenville were Captain John Hennepin and his family on April 1, 1795. They traveled downriver from Marquette on the Great Lakes packet ship St Lawrence which had just returned from exploring new waters off the coast of Canada and discovered an excellent site for a settlement on the lower Sangamon River near present-day Mount Prospect Park. When they arrived they discovered that there were already people living hereabouts (the Pecos Indians) and so decided to wait until their successors arrived from Illinois before moving any further downriver into this fertile region where cornfields stretched for miles beside small creeks and rivers edged by wooded hillsides susceptible to fire when burned by settler farmers during winter months when game was scarce or impossible to take home with them; these fires drove many of those early pioneers out of their homes forever! Captain Hennepin's family eventually moved eastward along the river until they reached what is now Wheaton Township in 1819 where they founded what would later become Peoria (now Peoria Heights). Captain John Hennepin's eldest son George inherited his father's property and built a cabin thereon which he called "Hennepin House". His second wife Elizabeth also lived at Hennepin House while she raised four children: William (born 1800), Mary (born 1802), JOHN JR., ANDREW JONES Sr.(born 1804). Accordingly upon George's death in 1826 both houses passed down through his children to Andrew Jones Sr., who purchased it about 1840 from Andrew Jones Jr., one of Captains John Hennepin's sons-nestled among many other parcels including Kankakee Creek Plantation known as Horseheads Landing because General James Dearborn stopped at its junction with Kankakee Creek on his march upriver after crossing overland from Michigan sometime between 1794-1796 en route to Fort Dearborn on Lake Erie - all this land passing through Jones' hands ultimately led him – like Commodore Perry himself – inland across open prairies rich with potential real estate opportunities much earlier than anyone else! Bensenville was founded in 1836 by John Bensen and his wife, Sarah. The town was named after Benjamin Ide (1798-1871), an early settler in the area. Ide's family had originated from Denmark and he was the son of a fur trader. In 1836, Bensenville became a station on the Illinois Central Railroad. The town was incorporated as a city in 1902. In 1925, Bensenville became part of the Chicago metropolitan area.
