Bensenville, Illinois is a small town in the northwest corner of Cook County, Illinois. The population was 7,451 at the 2010 census. It lies on the banks of the Chicago River and is bordered to the east by Park Ridge and to the west by Downers Grove. The first people to settle in what is now Bensenville were Quakers from Pennsylvania. In 1814, General James K. Polk moved his army upriver from New Orleans and called for volunteers to help him subdue the Creek Nation during a war with Mexico. A group of men led by Captain John Kirkman formed an independent company and set out for Bensenville on November 8, 1814. They arrived just after dark on November 9 and built their own cabin near where they now live. The first white person to live in what is now Bensenville was Captain John Kirkman's wife Mary Ann who arrived with him in 1815. In 1818, Judge Isaac Nourse bought some land north of present day Bensenville from William Sellers for $1 million dollars which he named Nauvoo Township after his native home of Nauvoo, Illinois (now Quincy). There are several early histories about Nauvoo that mention a millrace that ran through part of today's town center; however it has not been found or confirmed as being historically related to early pioneer life in Bensenville. Nourse had plans for a city but died before he could carry them out; however they have always been popular rumors among local residents about how Nourse's dream would have come true if only he had lived long enough to see it realized - one story claims that he actually saw an angel appear down upon him while under anesthesia while undergoing surgery so this may be true! Today many believe that President Joseph Smith founded Mormonism here in Nauvoo even though there exists no evidence connecting this event with any ancient prophet or religious leader anywhere near modern-day Bensenville! Islam began arriving here beginning around 1830 when Muslim refugees fleeing persecution in Iran started settling here along with Alsatians who also fled medieval Cisalpine Austria due to famine conditions there at that time. Eventually all three groups combined resulted in more than 10% of all occupants living within 2 miles (3 km) of downtownChicago during this time period! Eventually most Muslims left because they didn't agree with Joseph Smith's polygamy practices which caused much controversy within Mormonism at the time; however other issues such as racism against certain ethnicities continued until well into our 21st century era! The village motto "Et tu Brûles?" can still be seen throughout many businesses including restaurants and gasoline stations as part of their marketing strategy aimed at attracting customers from nearby neighborhoods like Lawndale and Oak Lawn! BensonVILLE ISLAND - This large man made island sits right next to Carlisle Marina making it easy access for boaters/canoeists/swimmers! Bensenville, Illinois is a town in DuPage County, Illinois, United States. The population was 11,827 at the 2010 census. Bensenville is part of the Chicago metropolitan area and is the headquarters for Northern Illinois University. It was named for John Bensen (1784-1859), an early settler in the area. Bensenville was first settled by Andrew and his wife Susannah Kapp from Scranton, Pennsylvania on a tract of land near what is now Skokie Heights Cemetery. Andrew's brother David also settled in this area soon after and it became known as "Kappstown." In 1809, John Bensen arrived from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania with his family to purchase 640 acres of land west of present day Ottawa Street in present day Bensenville. He erected a log cabin on this site which served as their home until he died in 1859. His widow Mary moved into this house after her husband's death and it remain there to this day. During the 1840s and 1850s large numbers of immigrants arrived in what is now DuPage County viaboats through Lake Michigan including many Germans who had fled religious persecution back home in Germany. By 1860 there were over 100 German families living here with 10 churches providing Lutheran services as well as a school system which taught children between the ages of 7 and 12 years old German language skills while they learned other subjects like reading Christian scriptures proper! Many businesses were started by these immigrants such as tailor shop owner Johann Schmidt who opened up his business next door to what is now Hinshaw's Pharmacy still operating today! Laborers working on farms brought their own food products into town for grocery stores such as Grosse Pointe Grocery Company which opened its doors in 1857! The first post office was established at Bensenville on November 15th, 1861 under the name "Ottawa." The first deed to make use of that name was dated December 16th, 1861 from Jacob Hirschmann (an immigrant from Prussia) to Jno Wirth (a native of Bavaria). This site remained operational until it burned down during bad weather on June 3rd 1865; however not before giving birth to our current town namesake John Puskarowski! The village formed around one small schoolhouse called "Grosse Schule" or "Large School". Classes began September 9th 1870 when just 8 students attended; however due to lack of space they relocated again September 15th 1870 to another building behind Good Samaritan Episcopal Church where classes continued until March 4th 1871 when they again transferred due to overcrowding inside the church! On October 28th 1871 we celebrated our 1st birthday when all 8 students participated in Celebrations Gymnastics Workshop organized by Mrs Anna Hawkins with Mr Walter Weisbach leading them! After 1 year we reopened our doors at 214 N Washington Ave!! Our very own Mrs Anna Hawkins continue serving us ever since!!! Today Bensenville maintains much continuity with its past including its strong community spirit characterized by friendly rivalries among various businesses within walking distance or even across streets etc., along with tightknit social groups - often involving music performances at local parks or recitals held outdoors during summertime nights/days
The town of Bensenville was founded in 1857 by Isaac Bensen and his family. The first post office was established in Bensenville in 1858, and the town became a hamlet in 1859. In 1865, the village of Bensenville was formed from part of the town. The population of the village reached 1,200 in 1870, but declined to 100 in 1910. The population of the town increased to 2,000 by 1920. The current community was founded as a result of a land grant from James Kapp to Isaac Bensen and his son-in-law Samuel Hubbard. The original name for the community was "Hubbardstown."
