Bensenville is a small town in the Will County, Illinois region. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago-Naperville-Joliet Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first gun barrel made in Bensenville was a crude barrel that was used by hunters to shoot game. A more advanced design was developed and it became known as the Bensenville Shotgun Barrel. During World War I, many American munitions companies moved their plants to Bensenville because of its strategic location on top of a hill surrounded by forests and farmlands for artillery fire support during the war effort. In 1919, General Electric Company established an engineering plant here that produced electronic equipment for military use. This company continues to operate today under different names including United Technologies Corporation and Northrop Grumman Corporation. during World War II, many American munitions companies moved their plants to Bensenville because of its strategic location on top of a hill surrounded by forests and farmlands for artillery fire support during the war effort. In 1862, P fault discovered oil well near the community and began production which led to increased demand for water from residents and businesses as well as new construction around the area including a steam engine plant, sawmill and gristmill which all started up during this time period In 1865 when Bearden Manufacturing Company merged with others under its umbrella it bought out Mrs Fenton's shares so that all schools could be consolidated into one building before closure occurred due to financial difficulties within Bearden Manufacturing Company In 1898 when electric lights were introduced to US communities wide they impacted Bearden Manufacturing Company too much so it closed down permanently leaving many students without their educations or jobs One such student who lost his job during this time period was Rufus Scudder who had worked at Bearden Manufacturing company for thirteen years prior to its closure

Bensenville is named after George Washington Bensen, who donated land to the town in 1881. The first settler in what is now Bensenville was John Prentice, who arrived there on October 14th, 1836. In 1868 the community became a village and was incorporated as such on November 8th of that year. The name "Bensenville" originated from when residents would go out into their farmlands to collect firewood and saw timber during wintertime. From this activity, they gathered enough wood for their personal use and also for heating and cooking needs during the warmer months. On May 10th of 1888, James Waddell purchased 5 acres of land northeast of the village center from Ebenezer Griggs for $100 per acre. This property would later become known as Waddell Park. Mr. Waddell served as Mayor of Bensenville from 1888-1890 and again from 1896-1898 before he passed away in 1900 at the age of 83 years old while still serving as Mayor. He is buried within Waddell Park along with his wife Henrietta (née Cook) Waddell and children Anna (Mrs. Hurlbut), Everett (Mr. White), Franklin D., Mary Ellen (Mrs.), Howard S., Harry A., Edwin F., Jessie J., Addie M.(Widow G.) and Nettie KLINELLS(Daughter). The early days were difficult for residents because there were no natural resources available to help them build their homes or harvest crops such as wheat or corn." Most people had to build their homes using whatever materials they could find around them which included logs, bricks, stones etcetera." One important event that took place in Bensenville occurred on April 4th 1865 when Union soldiers burned down part of the Village Hall which afterwards functioned as a schoolhouse until it burned down again in 1951." In 1907 incorporation also allowed citizens to start selling vegetables directly to customers rather than going through local merchants." During World War II many businesses closed due to rationing but some like The Armoury survived by becoming an air raid shelter." After World War II things started changing for locals when people started moving away leaving behind machines shops carpenters etcetera." Today most people are self-employed with a few remaining businesses.""
