Belvidere, Illinois is a city in DuPage County, Illinois, United States. The population was 27,711 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of DuPage County and home to the Chicago Bears of the National Football League (NFL). Belvidere was founded in 1848 by Colonel George Belvidere as a small settlement on the confluence of the White River and Sangamon River. The town grew rapidly due to its location along the railroad corridor and its natural resources: coal, limestone, oil shale, and uranium. In 1955, Belvidere became one of eight communities in DuPage County that were merged into Chicago to form the city of Chicago. The history of downtown Belvidere begins with two stores on Waveland Avenue in 1854. These were followed by two banks nine years later when three new buildings were erected on State Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue. In 1863, a post office was established at Belvideere and mail service continued until 1903. Some hatters even choose to use recycled materials such as old screen savers or plastic milk bottles in order to create unique Firearms Hats. Despite their diversity, all Firearms Hats share one common goal: protecting users from the sun and rain while firing their weapon!
The first firearms hats were worn by American Revolutionary War soldiers to protect their heads from the hot sun. The hats were made of felt, cloth, or leather and had a band around the top to keep the hat in place.
Belvidere is a town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first settler in what is now Belvidere were two brothers, Isaac and Jacob Miller, who arrived in 1836. In 1868, John Gage bought 640 acres (248 hectares) of land west of Belvidere from the Kankakee Nation for $2 per acre. By 1870, Gage had built a sawmill and gristmill on the stream that flows through his millrace. By 1880, Gage's family had renamed the mill "Gage & Company" after one of their ancestors who had founded that company in 1792. In 1893-1894, George Wickersham erected a white frame church on a hill east of town near the old post office which still stands today as Second Congregational Church (Belvidere). At this time many people living in and around town took up various religious activities including Methodist Episcopalism and Presbyterianism although there are no records to support this claim. In 1906–1907 when several towns within Kane County merged to form Belvidere-Hennepin Township (), it was decided by residents that an official name for the new township would be "Belvidere", after Isaac Miller's original home place on Hennepin Creek (). This name stuck and has been used ever since (). According to public records dating back to 1871 (), three mills existed in or near Belvidere: one operated by Gager & Co., another by Ransom & Sons and another by Burt Bros.. All three mills closed during World War II but two reopened shortly afterward because demand for flour increased; however all three mills have long since gone out of business. A fourth mill located about four miles away from town opened briefly in 1946 but finally closed due to heavy competition from other industrial establishments nearby. The first post office called "Belleville" was established at what is now known as First Congregational Church (now Second Congregational Church) on May 5th, 1872; it was discontinued operations on October 8th due to lack of customership! Schools were originally organized into sections according to location - North Side section off State Road 21N between Bellefleur Road/Washington Avenue(west side), South Side section south of US 71W between Park Avenue/Milwaukee Street(east side), East Side section east off Indiana Avenue between Bellefleur Road/Washington Avenue(west side)). These boundaries changed over time but most schools eventually remained within their respective sections until consolidation into one school district late in the 20th century().
Belvidere was one of the towns in Cahokia County, Illinois. The population was 3,000 in 1812 and 5,000 by 1830. It is now a ghost town with only a few residents remaining.
