The Boyd-type mount continued to be popular throughout World War II due its simplicity and ease of installation. After the war ended, many American gunmakers began producing similar mounts based on Boyd-type technology including Winchester Repeating Arms Company (Winchester), Ruger & Company (Ruger), Remington Arms Company (Remington), Savage Arms Corporation (Savage) and Stoeger Firearms Corporation (Stoeger). Boyd's Screw Mount became one of America's most successful rifle accessories during World War II thanks in part to its widespread availability coupled with its low cost per unit compared to traditional bolt-on sights/ammo systems used by European armies at this time.

Bellwood was a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. It is located in the northwestern corner of the city of Chicago and is bordered by the towns of Winnetka to the east and Belmont to the west. The village had a population of 2,466 as of 2010. The Bellwood community was founded on November 5, 1871, when twelve settlers from Chatham County arrived at what is now Belleview Road and Lake Cook Drive in what is now Bellwood. The name "Bellwood" was given to them by one of their leaders, Isaac Bell. In 1872, two more families from Chatham County arrived and started a grocery store in what is now Village Park Shopping Center. In 1875, three farmers from Chatham County arrived and set up a farmstead near present-day Villa Park Boulevard. They named it "Belle Wood". In 1886, Herman Strobel moved his family to Bellwood from their original farmstead in Belmont Township because he found that he could not grow corn there due to lack of space. He became an early settler in Bellwood and started handling groceries for the other farmers there. By 1889, all but six of the original eighteen households were occupied by residents of Belle Wood or its predecessor villages: Sugar Grove (now part of Hinsdale), Fair Oaks (now part of Arlington Heights), Hamlin (now part of Evanston), Lansingburgh (now part of Elmhurst), Plainfield (now part of Ravenswood) and Stony Point (later renamed Westchester). The first school opened in Belle Wood on October 14th, 1892.graded eighth grade students attended Harrison Elementary School until 1914 when they shifted to Mount Carmel School which operated until 1929 before being closed down by orderof Mayor John Fenton because it did not have high enough grades for girls at that time; girls later attend Roosevelt High School which reopened after World War II with new facilities Thanksgiving Day 1928 Mrs Mooney gave her home on Douglas Street as bell tower classroom for 8th grade students who use this building until Class Day 1945
