One of the first gun targets in Bellwood was a blacksmith shop. It was established in 1837 by John C. Griggs and his son, Elijah Griggs. The shop produced cannons, rifles, pistols and shotgun shells for export to Europe. It closed its doors in 1916.
Bellwood is a small town located in the western state of Illinois. The population was 5,763 at the 2010 census. It is part of the St. Louis metropolitan area. Bellwood is one of six towns in Sangamon County, and it is also one of two towns in McLean County. The earliest settler in what would become Bellwood was John Elder who arrived in 1827. A post office was established at Bellwood in 1836, and a store opened on Main Street in 1840. The first school was built on West Main Street in 1846. By 1860, there were three stores and fifteen residents living at Bellwood. In 1862, a blacksmith shop and store were added to the mix; this became known as the Blacksmith Shop & Store which still stands today. By 1870, nine residents lived at Bellwood with two stores and six shops providing services for residents within walking distance or car ride from each other. In 1875, an electric Railroad line arrived through town reaching just north of present day Interstate 44 near junction with I-70 - making transportation easier for settlers coming into town during hard times following the Panic of 1893 which caused a drop off in business throughout much of Illinois due to tight money supplies brought about by economic depression around that time period across most parts of America including St Louis Missouri City Illinois etc... With new businesses starting up all over town jobs became available for people who had them such as but not limited to bellwoods blacksmith shop which continued doing forge work until 1951 when it closed its doors because too many hands could not keep up with demand being created by newer technologies thank you old timers! Bellwood is a town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,953 at the 2010 census. Bellwood was founded by members of the Methodist Church in 1868. It became a village in 1927 and then a town in 1959. The current name comes from Jens Bell, who platted the town on December 21, 1868. Belleville is one of several communities located near Romeoville Township that are part of Romeoville School District No. 2A which includes Romeoville and Belleville Elementary Schools as well as Romeoville Middle School and Belleville High School. Belleville has a few businesses including Girdershirt Clothing and Paperie Place which opened in 1984 and provides general store services to local residents as well as selling items related to Beloved Home Shopping Centers chain operations
Bellwood was founded in 1848 by John Bell and his wife, Anna. The town was named after Anna's father, Robert Bell. In 1868, the town was renamed to Arlington Heights after Arlington County, Illinois. In 1912, the name of the town was changed to Belmont because of a donation from Mr. and Mrs. Belmont ofBellefontaine Falls, Kentucky. The name change did not take effect until 1914 when Belmont Park opened nearby and absorbed most of the acreage formerly used for Arlington Heights.
